Question about Panasonic Home Theater System System

1 Answer

Locked up DVD player

My Panasonic SA-HT700 home theater system system is locked up. The tray will not open or close. The message on the front of the unit says please wait, but nothing happens. Can you help?

It is a 5 disc changer, there is no eject button. I'm not sure I have it hook up correctly.

Now the tray doesn't want to close all the way. The discs change positions when I push the close tray button.

Nothing seems to work. I think it's shot. Thanks anyway.

Now you can force the ray shut. That doesn't seem like a good idea though.

Try unplugging the dvd player for a moment and plug it back in, see if it opens if not.

Turn on the unit and press repeatedly the eject button at the same time. If you succeed in ejecting the disk before the player starts reading the disk then the disk will eject. If that does not work. Try holding down the eject button.

also see if there is a small hole in front of the dvd drive / tray where you could use a pin to eject it.

if the unit still doesn't eject the disc, the small rubber ring that transfers the motion from the eject motor into the gears may be broken or out of place. or it can be a set of different faults.

if you are outside of warranty you could open up the dvd player and eject the drive by helping it on the gears, also check that the rubber part is ok and in place.

the drive may be stuck mechanically and ones you help the gears it may work normally again.

    Oh, I see.

here is the user manual for your sa-ht700
    http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANP...

You will need a pdf reader to open the file, if you don't have one or you can't open the document get one from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

    in play position

    1 Press [DISC EXCHANGE].
The drawer opens and the disc in the play position comes to
    the front-left position.
2 Change the disc in the front-left
    position.
    3 Press [DISC EXCHANGE].
    The drawer closes.

    During play

1 Press [eject] to open the drawer.
2 Press [DISC SKIP] to rotate the
    carousel.
The carousel moves one tray clockwise and each subsequent
press moves it two trays in alternate directions.
3 Change the disc and press [eject] to
    close the drawer.

I wonder if theres something blocking it from closing.

  • Ekse Jun 21, 2009

check the manual that its hooked up correctly. Other than that is it on warranty?

  • Ekse Jun 21, 2009

you may have to take the unit to service I don't think theres anything we can do, seems like a hardware issue, and i don't think we couldn't even start to update the internal software when the drive doesn't work properly and all the unit says is please wait.

    seems like we are stuck.

The system has a locked / unlocked toggle sequence on the main unit by holding down stop (or Play) and then tapping the power button. Use this sequence lock or unlock the DVD / CD drawer.

Without a cable? You probably can't unless wireless DVD is out.

If you want to use a wired DVD player, you would have to settle for just audio (analog stereo or optical digital) from it since this unit doesn't accept any video IN.
