Question about Kodak EasyShare Z885 Digital Camera

Can't turn Kodak Z885 camera back on

I got a low battery indication on the LCD screen. When I replaced the batteries, I was prompted to fix the date. When I did, the camera went off and wouldn't come back on again.
I replaced the batteries again and even rushed out and bought lithium camera batteries. Still no luck.
Kodak's says to mail them the camera for a max of $70.00 plus tax and shipping both ways. This is about the same current cost of a new Z885.
When I look into the battery compartment, I can see what appears to be a circuit board mounted switch that lines up with a slot in the plastic camera case. It looks like something is supposed to hit this switch when the batteries are inserted.
I hope someone has a solution other than Kodak.

Remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts inside the camera with a soft cloth (a heavy buildup on the contacts may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that the cleaning leaves in the camera, and then reinstall the batteries. This clears most power-on problems, but if yours persists, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

I dropped my z885 - now I have black screen and static. Fix or junk?

They are retailing for mid $200's. Even with either a LCD replacement (~$130) or Lens Assembly replacement ($110), it would be cheaper to repair than replace. Tough call though.

Jacob
