Question about Alpine Type-R SWR-1222D Car Subwoofer

1 Answer

Subs cut out at low volume no matter the settings

I have two 10 inch type R subwoofers being powered by a alpine mrp-m500 amp. I put them in a 2005 saturn ion with the advanced audio system (AAS). I used the high pass converter to rca and my subs cut out when i turn the volume up past three notches. I have turned the gain and eq all the way down on the amp and my head unit and it still cuts out at the sme time. I purchased the subs as a loaded setup so i do not know what the ohm rating is or any ohr specs on the subs. Please help thank you.

No the cap did not help anything. I am at a loss. Is it possable the amp is too small for these subs. What are the specs on the type r 10's?

I'm not a complete audio expert but it sounds like somethings over heating or you have a blown out put bridge.

It sounds more like you aren't getting enough power then. Bad capasitor? Seems like a big lack of juice.

Absolutely. That was what I was going to say next. Need more power!! Did you check the output bridges on the head set? If they're ok, then get more juice.

Amp is only driving the subwoofer when in low volume. If i raise the volume amp shuts down and only works again if i turn power completely off.

I have a alpine MRP-M500 amp connected to 2 10 inch comp kicker subs. The problem is the subs rattle and distort. The subs have been tested ok and all the wiring has been tested also ok. What could be...

Any time that there is a rattling sound from the subs, that indicates that they are probably blown. How were the subs tested ok? If the resistance of the subs is still close to OK, that is good, but it doesn't necessarily indicate that they are working properly.
Try using different subs at a lower volume, or turning down the gain slightly.

About Power supply wires (MRP-M1000 only)

• 21mm2 is the minimum power and ground cable size

that should be used to connect this amplifier. The

length of these cables should not exceed 1m to assure

safe operation.

• If the length of the power and ground cables exceed

1m, or if you connect more than one amplifier, a distribution

block should be used with 33mm2 or 53mm2

power and ground cables depending on the length

necessary. Ensure that you install a correctly-rated

in-line fuse on the power cable near the battery positive

post.

I have an alpine MRP-500 amp that used to work great with my 2 10" Type-R subwoofers. Out of nowhere the sound just stopped working and still will not. I had the amp and subs tested and the guy said it was...

  • make sure the subwoofer level is up on the head unit.
  • Make sure the RCA cables are good.
  • Make sure the remote wire is connected and has 12v+ when the head unit is on.
If the remote wire is not turning on the amp, its not going to work. To hot wire it to see if thats the problem, just run 12v+ to the remote jack. That will turn on the amp.

I have a set of Alpine Type R 12 inch subs... I have a 1500 watt amp powering them but when I turn the music up, the bass cuts out. Where should I start looking for the problem?

ground is loose(most likely amp), battery running low, subs might be damaged? feel free to keep me in touch if problem occurs more after checking grounds and power source and subs. Also might need to re-tune your head unit and amp?
