Question about Brother Multi-Function Center MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Need help. Can't get the scanner to auto crop. I have tried all of the settings but, everytime I scan a 4x6 (or any other size) picture, it stores the picture as it looks on the scanner bed, meaning it still has the rest of the 8.5x11 boarder around it. So I have to edit and crop each picture in a seperate software program. Shouldn't this scanner do this for me ?

plz help me to understand: waisting paper by scanning?????
There is no paper to waist!

The machine scans the whole glass! The settings for scanning can be set by the scan software. Do have a look there. It might be that the settings auto crop the size.
In case you run copy do change the paper size.

Most software has a preview button first click this.
Then you can see a dotted line rectangle around the area to be scanned.

SOURCE: Brother MFC-210C, need to clean the scan glass underneath.

I know that you want to get at the fungus, but disassembly is not your biggest problem.

Reassembly and realignment of your scanner is your biggest problem.

Consider the following and tell me whether it is worth the trouble.

Auto crop and Deskew ?!! everytime i try to scan it pops up with a message saying...these settings will be ignored: -autocrop -deskew we have to scan document that are really long and i cant have it...

I know this is very old and you have probable answered your own question, but in case anyone else finds this...

Search google for panasonic reference area/roller, they are two rollers inside your scanner, if they are set to white Deskew and Autocrop amongst others will be disabled, if its set to Black they become available, I spent two days trying to sort this.

Auto detection can not be set as default

A 'Driver' is only the software portion to connect two hardwares. You need to install a printer driver for Printer, or a DVD driver for a DVD drive. Similarly, the scanner driver just connects the scanner to the computer.
You need to use a Scanning software to use the scanner. Canon offers CapturePerfect 3, using which you scan documents, do rotation, convert to PDF etc. CP3 has option to detect the page size. CP2 is available free of cost from Canon sites. CP3 comes with the scanner.

Picture Size to Large?

This may not be the solution; however, please obtain a larger capacity memory card.
A 2GB card will give you several hundred photos. Cost is less than $10.
You really should not lower the resolution. you will lose detail that you may want in the future (really). (4GB card will hold over 999 pictures - $15)
If you must lower the resolution, press "Menu" and use the arrows to move the highlight bar to "resolution" ... change it to a lower number like 6MP. keep the "FINE" setting in place (if your model has that setting) or maybe "BEST".
Do not use "RAW" - (very large pix).
Hope this helps!

Lexmarkx125 will scan larger pictures but smaller ones.

Here are some instructions from the Lexmark X63 which was similar to the X125.

The Lexmark X63 uses a sheet fed scanner, intended to scan 8 1/2 x11 inch paper.
  • To scan a document between 5 1/2 inches and 8 3/4 inches wide, center the document between the paper feed guides leading into the scanner and make sure the document is held straight,. Do not bend the document as it is fed into the scanner.
  • To scan photos or pictures that are 5 1/2 inches wide or smaller, you will need to use a flatbed scanner, or "mat" the image into a regular letter-size paper and scan the entire page. When the scan process is complete, crop out the picture using the AUTO CROP option in the Scan and Copy Control program or the photo-editing software.

Scanning with Canon Pixma MP450

I just did it then! With help from solution posted Feb 08 leave the acual scanner alone can be done from the computer. Steps:

1. Go to - start - control panel - printers & hardware - scanners.
2. Once inside the scanners folder just click once on the scanner icon (mine is called WIA Canon) so it is highlighted.
3. Then click on the toolbar 'File' > 'scan', then select the correct program from the list (mine was MP Navigator 2).
4. Use the MP Navigator program to select "scan photo/document", follow the instructions. At the bottom if the window that is open you can change the document type to PHOTO or DOCUMENT!

This is where the problem lies it is scanning the document as a photo which is why it is coming out as multiple documents.
