You need to look at the memory card(s) you have and only the same pin memory will install. Faster memory isn't as important as the maximum amount you can add, since your cpu can't run any faster, but windows can use the extra ram and avoid disk-swapping which is slow.

I want to upgrade my memory. my current memory is 2x256mb pc2 3200. what is the max limit of memory can i have? is it per slot or total? if i get pc2-5300 is it backward compatible to pc2-3200? anyone with...

You can have a maximum of 2GB in that laptop 1x1GB in each slot, the ram speed is PC3200, PC5300 is too fast so the bios will not recognize it as the maximum is only 400MHz, stick to the PC3200 for each stick.
Ask for SODIMM DD2 SDRAM, PC3200 2x1GB, i also recommend Kingston as the ram manufacturer.

Dell Inspiron 2400 Add RAM and Vid card?

There u go! and YES, 2GB is tha maximum RAM you can have on that one.
But NO, you can NOT use PC3200 sticks, this is what you can use:
PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC)

You can read all about in the documentation obove

Not recognise memory for windows XP.

the 4260 takes PC2700 DDR. not PC3200, also the 4260 take only memories with special chip buildin for that particular motherboard.

Dell Inspiron 1100 won't read 512 Meg ram.

I had the same problem. I tried several brands of memory unsuccessfully, though they all guaranteed that their products would work with my machine. Finally, my brother (who works in IT) recommended that I go through The Upgrade Place ( Great price - less than half of what Dell charges - and the memory worked immediately upon installation.

When I told them that I had a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop, they said that my PC required proprietary memory (which is true). I paid with a credit card and received the part two days later.

Good luck,

Dell 1100 Will not power up

I would take out the memory and put it back in, just to make sure that it's properly seated. You might want to try the same with the hard drive.

You have the answer in your question. I have checked the PC specification and you are right, it uses PC2700 memory. Therefore you need to install PC2700 memory. PC3200 memory will be the wrong speed and will not be supported.

Is pny ddr2 pc2-5300 2X1GB compatable with the DELL DIMENSION 1100?

Hello mrkennx6

I was unable to access pny's web site to use their memory configurator for your Dell Dimension 1100. I did, however, find information regarding the RAM supported in your computer on Dell's web site.

You can find downloads and information HERE on Dell's web site (for your Dell Dimension 1100).

HERE is the Owner Manual for your computer. Please, refer to page 55 for information regarding the type of memory your computer supports.

To summarize information taken from the manual:
Install (matched pair) memory modules in DIMM slots 3 & 4

The matched pair of memory DIMMs should be either [PC2700 (DDR 333MHz)] or [PC3200 (DDR 400MHz)] SDRAM.

If you install a single module, be sure to install it
to DIMM slot 3 (the connector closest to the processor).

(Do not install ECC memory modules)

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for you or, of course, if you have more questions, etc on this topic.

Thank you

Dell Inspiron 1100 Memory speed

Vacuum out the keyboard when the computer is OFF.
Use a thin wide object such as a metal fingernail file to pry off the "D" button, there is probably some dirt under there, then vacuum.

You may have to disassemble the key board, and wash it out if the offending item is something like soda of OJ.
Be sure to draw a map of the wiring connections.
Not as scary as it sounds when done on a desktop computer.
