My mitsubishi vs-60705 has very poor picture clarity. It can be described as hazy and the color is weak.

Based on your convergence description I don't believe that is the problem. The lines all are aligned. The picture just isn't crisp. I can best describe it as hazy. A friend suggested a new bulb, but considering that a bulb is a couple hundred dollars I wanted to make sure that is what I need. The colors seem ok, what is suppose to be blue is blue, red is red, so on and so forth, but just really hazy and glowy.

It may be a convergence problem...but not sure based on your description.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergenMy mitsubishi vs-60705 has very poor picture - 0667c5f.pnge bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

If your TV is a projection set if will have "3" tubes...one for red/blue/green. It won't use bulbs.

It could be the CRT fluid is cloudy in the tubes but I am not positive that this set used fluid.

Philip Magnavox TV sets have this problem all the time. Once the fluid is changed and the lenses cleaned the TV looks bright and new again. Do a search for CRT fluid for more information

Sounds like you have a swollen cap in your horizontal hold circuit. Look at your board closely, and I am sure you will find one that is bulging on the top. Just replace with the same value.

Mitsubishi VS-60705 red lamp replacement

The part you are describing is actually the red picture tube, not a lamp. The tube will come dry and you will need to disassemble the lens assembly on the old tube, drain the coolant (antifreeze), reassemble the parts and seal on the new picture tube, fill with fresh coolant, install the new tube, reconnect all wires including the dangerous high voltage lead, then realign the yoke and entire convergence circuits. This is not something that should be attempted by anyone without experience. If you try it yourself and the seal is not working perfectly, the coolant will drip down on your main boards and the set will be ruined. If you slip while lowering the new tube in the chassis there is a good chance you will crack the tube's neck, and that tube will be useless too.

Mitsubishi VS-60705 - picture flutters vertically and horizontally

This sounds like one of the 9 volt regulators on the small signal board is going bad, supplying less than 8 volts. I have seen this is several of those sets. The IC needs to be replaced and if you do not have experience in servicing projection TV's then I suggest letting a qualified tech handle it for you.
