One end is usually fixed the other is not :pull staight out on the end with the belt. to put back :put on belt side first; lock in place with a little effort and put in other side.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Brush not turnning

The brush roller is driven by a belt installed on the motor shaft. The belt could be broken or off the shaft. The brush roller could be clogged inside the end caps with debris which prevents rotation. To solve the debris problem, it will be necessary to remove the belt from the motor shaft, then note the orientation of the end caps and remove the brush roller. Next, remove one end cap and check for clogging material. Remove the material. Slide the brush roller shaft away from the end of the brush roller to check for clogging material at the opposite end. Remove the material. Slide the brush roller shaft back into position and reinstall the end cap. Reinstall the brush roller in the correct position. Reinstall the belt. Check for proper rotation of the brush roller.

Eureka TRUE HEPA Whirlwind Bagless same problem seems...roller just stopped...took everything apart and turned it on just in time to see belt melt...I was able to get the end caps off both sides at first...

If you are able to remove one end cap, the brush roller shaft can be removed and the other bearing is exposed for examination and removal of the hair that probably is clogging it. After cleaning and reassembly the brush roller should rotate freely. Clean any burned belt residue from the motor shaft and install a new Eureka belt.

If the roller brush cannot be rotated easily by hand, it is likely that debris is jammed inside the end caps.Make note of the direction arrows on the end caps as you remove the roller brush. You will need to know this for reinstallation. The end caps are fastened with stop nuts. Removal of one will allow the inner shaft to be extracted for examination and cleaning. An old toothbrush is a good cleaning tool. Reinstall the inner shaft and stop nut. Check for free rotation of the brush roller. Place a new belt over the brush roller and reinstall the brush roller, being careful to observe the position of the arrows on the end caps. Inspect the motor shaft and remove any old belt residue before installing the new belt on the shaft.

The roller brush will not rotate even after replacing with new belt- the skinny one

My roller wouldn't turn and the problem was that the larger flat self propel belt had gotten stretched. I replaced it with a new belt and the roller works great now. So perhaps you need to replace that belt also. Hold it up to a new belt and see if it is significantly larger and you'll know it stretched.

The brush isn't turning. Have cleaned around ends of brush. Looks like the motor isn't turning the belt.

Belt could be broken or has come off. It needs to be taken apart to find out. Not a hard fix usually. Since you didn't mention that it didn't squeal, got hot and smelled of burnt rubber or the roller didn't spin this is my guess.

Vacuum roller stops at half tilt.

You need a new belt. Belts will stretch to the point that they won't turn the brush roll under load, they will just slip. Check the brush when you change the belt to make sure the ends turn easily, if not, then replace it also.

Changing belt on Kirby Classic 1972

When you turned the knob, did it turn easily or hard. If it was easy, then the knob part inside did not catch the belt. If it did turn hard, when you had the brush roll off, did you check the ends to see if they turned easily or not. if not, then replace the brush roll.

Roller brush won't spin (bissel 6390/3910 series)

I just fixed mine. It took me all of 10 minutes. Pull the brush out. Stand the brush on end on the edge of your study work bench/table top. while holding the brush vertical( on end) take a small phillips screwdriver and tap using a hammer on the metal pin you see in the middle of the brush. Keep tamping and the whole assembly will come apart. What you will have then is a long metal shaft, 2 bearings(they are acutally skateboard wheel bearings same number same make). Clean the gobbed up hair with a razor blade and then reassemble by tapping back together. The bearing wont be worn out because they are way too tough for a vaccum. We used ride down hills on them! a ten minute fix wow and you wont have to drive to vacuum shop and spend $$ and time
