If its loose you have 2 options. 1 replace the shell/case or 2 replace the roller hinge barrel and ive never taken 5 hours to do a case replacement i do them in about 2hours.

I have had a similar problem, i think. if the hinge is loose, buy a kit to fix it. it is about $25.00, and take about 5 hours to do but it is worth it. i promise.

Can't start the ds lite

Hi,

The screen that does NOT flash is whats causing the issue, this is either because the ribbon cables connection has dislodged or that the screen has become damaged.

Either way the DS lite will need to be opend up for further inspection, if you have a warranty or are unwilling to do DIY on it then I will suggest sending it off for repair.

If you wish to go ahead and do it yourself then get back to me and I will help you through the processes needed to repair it.

Let me know what you wish to do and I will help you as best I can.

Regards,
SOD69

US Nintendo DS-Lite with converter problems in South Africa

Hi,

It should work straight out with a step down transformer. That is of course if the mains supply in South Africa is 240 240 and the unit being American is 110.

This is of course not unless it was initially tried without a transformer or stepdown converter which would mean that the charger/adapter has been fried and therefore damaged.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Ds problem

In a computer, loss (or failure to retain) settings like these are caused by a faulty CMOS battery. I haven't taken apart my DS yet (cannot find my tri-wing screwdriver), but I haven't found evidence of one in the DS. So I would say these are the most likely causes:
1) DS uses a solid-state chip (requiring no power) to hold data, and that chip is defective, or
2) The battery that supplies power to hold the data is defective, whether it's a button cell, built-in, or the easily-replaced Li-Ion.

If this is a brand-new DS, try charging the battery for a while first. if it's an older one that you've had and used before and this problem only recently surfaced, I would try replacing the battery first (borrow a friend's), and if that doesn't work, the unit may need to be serviced by a professional. Keep your ear to the ground, and hopefully someone who actually knows a fair bit about DS repair may have better advice for you!

Nintendo ds lighing probs

Mommyturtle, i suggest that you send it in. This will ensure that you get your DS back without loss on your part. But, if you would like instructions on how to fix your unit (This will void any warranties on your unit), please email me at charlyoak@msn.com and I will step you through it.
