Question about Buck In-Sink-Erator BADGER 5XP BADGERVEXP Garbage Disposal Garbage Disposal - Bl

1 Answer

There is a buzzing sound, but the blades are not turning.

I found some bones in the unit when i cleaned it up. The unit seems to be hot when you touch the body surface (under the sink). I've already cleaned it up and the blades turns freely by hand. The unit is still under warranty.

It just buzzes

grinder blade is probably stuck or in a bind. Take a socket wrench with extension and from the top (sink), turn the nut and blade inside the disposal by hand to free it up. Can also unplug it and reach inside to see what may be lodged in the disposal (rag, bone etc).

Fan motor is probably bad, if it is under 5 years old the parts are under warranty. Do not run the unit for very long without the fan working as it can damage the compressor.

I have a Trane AC unit, model HIDE036506A which is about 14 years old. The fan and compressor all of a sudden stopped. I can start the fan by hand but the compressor sounds like it wants to start but...

sounds as if the fan motor is getting hot and going off on internal overload (safety). - which causes the compressor to heat up and also go off.
When this happens the usual 'fix' is to replace the motor although you can try replacing the capacitor.
Since you only see one (capacitor) it's possible it's a 'dual capacitor' which means it's the serving the compressor AND the fan motor.
I would replace the fan motor.
Note: I've seen 'shorted' fan motors before - where the blade just barely turns and you would not want to touch the blade because it will give you an electrical shock.
I would be very careful touching the blade of that motor with the power on.-

Hello
Before you buy a new condensor fan motor check the contacts to the motor are not worn or pitted.

Hold or push the contactor in by using an insulated screwdriver and see if the fan motor turns.

Also the start cap you bought? was it the correct one meaning mfd micrfarad?

If all the above checks out ok then you need a fan motor, you can wire the motor direct to check it also.

From what you describe it sounds like the fan motor is burnt up and worn out,not uncommon.

Makes buzzing sound after cleaning blades

I keep the blades clean. Really clean. I'm a smoker, and you would not believe the crud that accumulates on those "blades"... <g>

First, I spray the blades with "PurplePower" cleaner/degreaser (from AutoZone), then I wipe them down with a sponge, then rinse with hot water. then dry them with compressed air (I have a compressor...).

FWIW, "Windex" works pretty good too, but... the degreaser really works well on the cigarette "residue"..

Second, there are two long wires inside that also have to be cleaned, periodically.

If your unit has the "pull-tab" cleaner, use it. One of my units has it. The other two don't.

On the ones that don't have the built-in cleaner, I stick a chopstick in through the rear vents, and CAREFULLY rub it against the sides of those wires, which "scrapes" the "white crud" off of the wires. Take your time. You will likely have to "change locations" several times in order to access the full length of both wires.

NOTE: those wires are fairly durable, but BE CAREFUL with them.

Either way, after cleaning the wires, I then "blow" the unit clean with compressed air.

Voila! No more buzzing. Until the next time the wires get "crudded up".

Disposal blade locked up after finding bone piece

You need to purchase a garbage disposal wrench. It has a Tee at the top and extends down to a pivot with a large forked head. Drop this down and turn the blades until they start to move. Remove the wrench, run hot water and turn on your disposal. Both blades should now be free. There also might be a red reset button on the bottom.

Air Conditioner Compressor Fan Quit

Check the start capacitor. You may be able to see visual deformaty, otherwise, use a meter. The buzzing is most likely the contactors closing which uses a seperate 24v supply..

Excessive noise

I found that the buzzing can be removed by blowing out the unit, cleaning the blades and taking a long cotton swab and alcohol to thoroughly clean the corona wire - carefully - don't break it. The wire should be clean enough that the slider/wiper runs smoothly up and down the wire after cleaning. If it drags or is rough to slide, you will still have noise no matter how many times you clean the blades. The wire gets a "crust" on it.
