Hello,

Look for a reset button on the router. Make sure it is plugged in with power, and hold the reset button until the front panel LEDs start to blink. That will signify the router has been reset.

After that you should be able to access the router via the default username and password:
username: admin
password: admin

Good Luck

You must reset the router. on the back where the power cable, the phone cable and the rj45 connections are you will see a tiny little pushbutton. disconnect the router, with a small object (pen, stylus, paperclip) push this button and hold for 2 seconds. release the button. connect everything and when you connect from your pc to the router you should get the installation wizard which will guide you through the setup.

The router is blocking access to one computer asking for a network security key which is apparently different from the password. How do you find the security key?

Hi camavery,

If you want to the security key you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security and under Security Mode you can see the Network Key or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure. You can personalize the Network Key so that you can easily remember it. Then Save the settings.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

What is the passphrase

Hi,

Welcome to fixya

You can retrieve the password/ passphrase once you are able to login to the router successfully.

Click the below link
http://192.168.1.1

Now it will ask for username and password

Enter username = ( blank) and password = admin

Once
logged in . Click on Wireless > Wireless security

The Key1 will be your password if you security mode is wep

If WPA-PSK is the security mode password on passphase will be the password

That's all

Thanks

You can't bypass the security of the router. It's either you ask the owner for the security key or passphrase of the network or reset it, but if you do so you need to reconnect all computers connected to the router.

Security key or passphrase

If you are connecting to your own router and not someone elses by mistake, omeone has setup a security key on your router. It doesn't have one by default. Ask whomever installed the router what it is. Hope this helps!

Need to get laptop connected to wireless connection

The passphrase only means that there is a security enabled on that wireless network. You are correct, you need to know that passphrase for you to be able to successfully connect your laptop to that wireless network.

If you need more help on how to get this passphrase just let me know.

Having trouble adding computer to wireless network

this is just easy.. what you should type is the encryption key only... if your security is wep, only the encryption key or key 1 is needed. if your security is wpa, only the passphrase is needed.. it is very CASE SENSITIVE.. but if you see that the name has changed to LINKYS_SES, then you have a problem there because your wireless settings has changed due to the button on your router which is the secure easy set-up on the upper left corner which is the cisco button.
