Hello,
In command prompt (with admin privleges)
Try to ping a domain name. For example:

ping youtube.com

Does it list an IP address? Do you get reply's? If you get replys then the internet on your son's laptop should be working. Try and make sure there are no proxies setup. Its a brand new laptop so there shouldn't be but check anyways.

In Internet Explorer goto tools, internet options, connections tab, lan settings button. Make sure the box use a proxy server for your LAN is unchecked.

If you don't get an ip address or reply's it would most likely signify that your DNS settings are incorrect. Verify the correct DNS settings by typing in 'ipconfig /all' in command prompt. It will show what your DNS ip address is set to. Make sure the settings are the same on the other laptop.

If they mismatch then you may have some settings incorrect in your wireless router, or the laptop itself, or both.

The ideal solution in that case is to resolve the dns issue on the wireless router, but for a quick solution, you can set the router to be the DNS host on the laptop. The process for doing so is OS specific. A quick google search should lead in the right direction.

If further problems persist, it may be a problem with the OS itself, or the hosts file.

Good Luck

Facebook won't connect on computer but does on my phone tried all the computer suggestions ..still cannot connect

Hi
Since your phone connects to Facebook, you have valid Facebook account.
So - does the computer access the internet OK, If so then it would appear to be a username/password, firewall or anti-vrus software issue.
Does your phone connect to Facebook over a WiFi internet connection - eg from your BT HomeHub or other router, or via mobile Broadband (3g - 4g). If its via a WiFi connection/router then you need to check that the phone adn computer Wifi settings are the same.
Cheers

Hello Kevin, you are not been ripped just that the drivers are not ok. i would recommend you connect to the internet using o usb stick since the usb is ok. From there go to the device manager and then you could fix all the drivers issues by updating via the internet. Thank you.

I can't get my new Kindle to accept any of the numbers I can find on my Livebox. Which string of numbers does it want, please?!

So livebox is some sort of internet provider? Is it WiFi? If so then the kindle would connect just like any other wifi device like a laptop or smartphone. You need the SSID of the wifi device and the password.

Canot connect Ipad 2 to orange livebox.

You must connect via wifi to your livebox without problems. You may only go to Ipad settings and select the livebox wifi. I do not understand the problem.

I bought a new sony vaio laptop today as did my mum, but neither laptop will connect to the internet via our orange livebox. Our main home computer still connects perfctly well though. I've checked...

Connect using an Ethernet cable first of all. Once all set up, THEN go wireless using security code password for wireless.

Do the same for each new computer. Ethernet direct connection first, then wireless once you KNOW it's working.

I cannot connect my laptop as my second computer

This could be that your not pressing the association button on the LIvebox when trying to connect, i think its button two on the back, try both of them. The Livebox will flash it's light on the top when in association mode and you will be able to connect

Livebox

I just paid Orange Fr to send a techy to help get my wifi working with my Laptop. All she did was access the wifi icon on my laptop. Once there she tyoed in the code; at this point she pressed the wifi button on the Livebox and hey presto I was in business. The mnistake I was making was to press the Connect button on the Laptop. I think pressing the wifi button is like pairing using Bluetooth. Now all I have to do is get the TV working. How do you connect a SCART outlet to HDMI. My TV is so new there are no SCART ports on it.

Laptop

Hi,

It really depends on what "modem" Orange provided you with and how your personal PC is connected to the modem.

If the "modem" provided by Orange uses WiFi (such as Livebox) networking, then it is a matter of setting up your daighter's laptop to access and use the Livebox WiFi Network. In this case no router is needed since your modem is also a router.

If your PC is connected via Ethernet port to the "modem" and Orange's "modem" is a single Ethernet output port, you would need an AP/Router (Wireless since I am presuming the your daughter's laptop would be accessing the Internet wirelessly) such as the LinkSys WRT54G.

If your PC is connected via USB port to the "modem" and Orange's "modem" has only a USB output port (no Ethernet), you need to make your PC as the default gateway/software router and share your PC's Internet connection. If you are connecting your daughter's laptop using Ethernet cable, then you don't need a WiFi AP/Router but an ordinary hub. If on the other hand the new laptop would connect wirelessly, you would still need something like the WRT54G.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post again how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Connecting powerline ethernet adapters through orange livebox

Try to eliminate the problem into smaller parts. Try networking the two via the same power outlet via a multiple power board first in the same room. I don't have much experience with these powerline ethernet but i'm sure the configuration of these will be very similar as wireless router / access points and wireless adapter cards. However what I do know is that your power outlets need to be on the same "phase" of your electrical power system, so if you do this test I suggest (from one outlet board) you know the equipment works and your setup procedure works. then try seperating again and if it still doesnt work, check if your power outlets are wired on seperate phases (depends if your house has 3 phase wiring incoming to your home or not). Try another room or another outlet.
