I had exactly this problem the carb looked clean, but was clogged it was fine after a rebuild. a lil adviceput a shut off valve between the tank and fuel filter. it'a a really eay way to make changing the fuel filter easier plus you can run the carb out of gas for storage. an empty carb never clogs up

Could be bad ignition system. Check for spark when it quits using a new spark plug. Why do you suspect the fuel system? Does the engine quit suddenly or sputter to a stop? Does the engine have to get hot before it will quit? Sudden stop is usually ignition loss whereas sputtering could be either fuel or spark loss. Safety switches--'rider present'--could possibly be a problem and cause ignition loss.

My john deere riding mower model # lt160 will not start. what could it be?

Check fuel line. It could be stopped up. Also check inline filter or in tank filter for trash.

Weedeater riding lawn mower made a loud pop now won't start

Sounds like you may have trash in your carburator bowl,to repair, empty gas tank or pinch line going to carb, there's a bowl under carb, has a screw holding it on,remove screw,be care,it also has a rubber gasket too, look in bowl to see trash, dump gas and clean with a paper towel and put back on.Also check your plug and air filter. You need a socket and a rachet to get screw off.

I have weed eater/poulan 22" push lawn mower. It

Hi goldengear...

Make sure you have installed the blade on the right way, if it is installed upside down then it will "beat" the grass instead of cutting it and make a terrible cut, also make sure the blade is good and sharp.
The rough running may be due to trash in your carburetor, I would advise to clean your carburetor and also check you fuel tank for trash, water, etc. if there is any trash, water, etc in there then you need to also clean the fuel tank.
Do one more thing and check/clean/replace your fuel filter if you have one.

Runs for five seconds after being tilted up and put back down.

Trash in the tank fuel line outlet. When you tilt it the trash moves and lets some gas in. Set it down and the trash goes back in the hole and shuts off the gas. No pressure to feed fuel so when you pull choke makes it run rich and then starves for gas again. Dump gas, disconnect the line at the carb. Put a clean tube (drinking straw, plastic tube, whatever will fit so you don't get gas in your mouth) in the gas line and blow air into the tank through the filter clearing the obstruction. Reconnect line then see if it runs longer before it shut off. If it does clean the tank and flush the dirt out.
If that doesn't change anything then it has to be a carb diaphragm leaking and it need a rebuild kit and fuel system flush.

Craftsman 19.5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. Will not start. will start with starter fluid and then stalls. It appears no gas is getting to the carb.

disconnect fuel line from carb and crank engine. NO FUEL-check in-line fuel filter, kinked line, trash or water in bottom of fuel tank. FUEL- gas is stale, has water in it, or carb has sediment in bowl, bottom jet or idle jet.or float could be stuck shut.

I have a craftsman gt 6000 with kohler 18 hp magnum today it started fine and ran goodd for over an hour i put gas in it and ti would not stay runing it stated surging and popping and cuts off

Your carb is full of trash. you also probaly need to clean out the bottom of your fuel tank, blow out your lines and replace the fuel filter. I have 2 mowers with kohler engines and clean out the fuel tanks fuel lines and carbs 1 time a year. There is also a fuel shut solenoid on the carb this is normally problem if the engine does not run. but I am certain your problem is a simple fix, all you have to do is clean everything out in the fuel system.
