I have the same issue. And i sent the camera to canon as they assured me this was covered. As soon as i got it they want to charge me $115 for physical scratches in other areas of the camera which is due to usage of any camera, if not i can get a upgrade for $150 i've only had the camera SIX MONTHS! ... ive been emailing with a rep and they JUST decided toVOID my warranty?

Yes, I have ran into the same problem - lense error - restart camera. Canon Web site says dust or presure on the lense could cause this problem. If turing off and on does not fix the problem may need to have it serviced. Which is costly as experienced by one of the members.

I have the same problem: Lens error - restart camera. Lens will not retract. Bought the camera a few months ago.

Manually rotating sensor rotor inside camera and cleaning gear fixed the Canon "lens error" for me.
I placed instructions with photo's here: http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/

Lens error, restart camera

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

I dropped my camera today, and since then, I can't power down correctly. The lens will not go back in, and I can't use the camera at all, not even to view pictures already taken. I get a message that...

Try wriggling the lens LIGHTLY as you power off and see if you can get it to go in.
If that doesn't work, I hope you have insurance, as it will need to go in for repair.
It is damaged. Sorry for the bad news.

Lens Error

Remove battery for a minute or two then reinsert and try
If the problem persists recharge the battery fully
Then try if it still persists then there is a possible fault and you should return it to the vendor if under warranty ot contact Canon if out of warranty
Be warned if out of warranty your likely looking buying a new camera

My lens wont fully extend

My sister's camera was having the same trouble and after trying a few different things, i came across a solution that fixed her camera. Her error said "lense error, restart camera."

I held down the shutter button for a few seconds, then i held down the power button as well. I tried it once or twice and then it worked. I hope this helps!
