Samsung LTN1765 has blinking green power indicator, but no picture or sound

LCD can only be turned on by the power on on the front panel. Remote appears to not work. Buttons on top of LCD TV also seem to not work. No picture or sound. Is this an inverter problem? Is it worth fixing?

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2008

Yes, I have the same problem, my local repair shop said it needs a $400.00 new main board. I think this is crazy, a new main board??

  • donabq Apr 09, 2008

I also have the same problem - my repair shop cannot get a price on the main board and referred me back to Samsung. When I first took the tv in for repair - I was told the replacement part was not available. I called Samsung customer service and the rep verified it was not available - then I was transferred to the executive offices and was told by Melissa that she would request a new tv sent to me and to send the tv back to cve in NJ. I called several days later and was then advised that a substitute was available. I advised the rep that I had already sent the tv back to NJ as advised. He said he would re request a substitute tv and I would get a call back in a few day. Of course no one called. I called today and spoke with Nicole who advised me that the replacement part needed to be ordered and I would have to pay. Originally no charges were ever quoted to me and Nicole did not quote any prices. Little did I know that the cve in NJ had refused my shipment via ups - probably because I was originally given the incorrect transaction number. I have the tv back in my possession. I called back the repair shop and explained that the executive office now advises me that there is a replacement part. The repair shop had trouble finding the information on the website. She did find that there is a substitute part but no part number or pricing is listed. Please Help - I am at square one and out $100. Now the repair shop is referring me back to Samsung because they have no idea what the part number is and how much it is. I am going in circles.

  • chrisko1123 Jun 26, 2008

I have the same problem. My 42LC7D LG HDTV is only 7 months old> I was watching TV and went to adjust the volume and heard a small pop or click and mt picture was gone and so was my sound! When I try to turn my TV on the green light blinks for 10-15 seconds then stays on but I have no picture and no sound. When I turn it off it has a 5 second delay till the green light switches to the red standby light. I have tried to plug it in different outlets, leaving it off over night, unplugging. I have a service man coming to my house soon so I will post what he says! It is very frusterating!!!

I have the same blinking green light problem.  The TV would eventually come on after the light would go to a steady green----after pressing and repressing the power button.  Now it just blinks and never comes on.  This C21 part mentioned---does it fix the TV and how much does it cost.  Can a handy person buy that part and install it?  The set is 5 years old.  Please advise.

I have the same problem with my Samsung LTN1765 - blinking green light - no picture, no sound. Prior to that we had noticed a dark spot (like a bad pixel) and then a streak. Mine is 4 years old.

I tried the same things I'm reading, unplugging overnight and then for weeks. Took it to a TV repair shop, and they said probably a bad power supply and would cost too much to fix. I love this TV though.

We have the same problem - green blinking power indicator but no picture or sound, can't get the menu to come up. It doesn't matter whether we use the buttons on top of the TV or the remote - nothing works. I took it in for an estimate. They said the HV module needs to be replaced. They have to order the part which will take several days and it will cost $185 for parts and labor. Does anyone know if this is reasonable or outrageous?

Try replacing C51, a 10 microfarad 16v. surface mount electrolytic. It's near IC23 on the upper center of the board.
This part had high ESR on a couple of sets I serviced which
kept the power supply from starting.

I meant C21, not C51 in the original post. Sorry!

Have the same problem and C21 fixed my TV. I had to use a Trhu-hole capacitor 10uF/35V that I found at Radio Shack for $1.59. Its hard to find the exact SMD component but with little patience you can do the job. Thanks a lot!

Replacing the C21 (10uF/16V) works on my LTN1765.

It was MCU reset issue. The C21 and R219 (200 Ohm) set the power on delay time. The degraded C21 made the time constant too small.
Attached shows the time delay from Power-On. The IC chip (IC21) is KIA7045, voltage detector.

Buy an lcd tv since you are going to have to change to a digital signal soon and will need a converter. So it makes more sense to buy a new tv any ways. I took mine apart and only got more head so I say if you can afford one buy a lcd tv they are going down in pricing all the time.... Sorry but thats what I am going to do....

Hope this helps but not sure if the c21 replacement will work for everyone.... I just could see spending all that time and extra money on the problem.....

might not be the answer you were looking for but like I said that was my solution.....

Well on my set every once in a while the light stops blinking and it turns on, you can even turn it off then on several times, but after its off for a few hours its back to the blinking, its not the c21 in my set it looks good, however try leaving it on blinking, and with the back of the set flat on the floor, if you ever see it not blinking turn it on and just leave it on, and when your done just switch it to pc mode so he screen saver can run saying no pc

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

hope this may help;

LG LST-5100P set top box. Several times a day have

cap-grant, my friend has the same problem with set top box. When I phone maker I was told it is due to poor and weak signal. You must have 80% signal strength to maintain good picture. When signal strength dropped picture would freeze and had to be turned off at the power point to restart as nothing would work. So I guess what my experience says is you may need better aerial to boost signal and prevent dropout Leonard210
