Maytag Neptune TL electronics problem

I've some problems with my Maytag Neptune TL. When I switch it on it does not allow me to select all programs. Econo program works fine although when I select Econo LED next to Econo and another program lights up). When I select Normal, then it beeps twice and with Normal pressed twice it changes spin option but do not switch program to Normal. When I click on Spin it also beeps twice and I need to select Spin twice to advance it. When I select Delicate it starts washing (without even pressing the Start button). I've entered the service mode and run Quick Test cycle. It passed. I've run the buttons test and it also passed (although it had the same behaviour as with regular use, Normal button caused double beeps and changed Spin option and so on). I've check the resistance on the connctors between buttons panel and a control board and they seem to be OK except that there is some conductivity between pins 3 and 4 and I don't know if this is OK. Other than that washer works fine. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the electronics but I don't know if I should start with replacing the button panel or the control board. Any suggestions?

Well, I think I can get the control board for less then $200, still cheaper than good quality washer.

Thanks for both answers I received (I have to answer in the comment section as it looks like I cannot post a solution for my own problem). Anyway, the model that I have is FAV6800AWW. The control board I found in a couple of stores for about $180. I don't think I'll be able to get anything under warranty. The washer came together with a house that I bought. I don't have any receipts for it and I'm not sure how old it is. It will be difficult to get replacement from Maytag. Other than that I'm pretty satisfied with this washer as it does quite good job. To replace it I'd need to spend at least $700 for average front load washer so I think I'll take my chances with replacing just the board. The only thing I'm not sure is if the problem is with the board or panel but I guess I'll go with the most common and replace the board.

I’m not sure what machine model you have your in the FAV6800AW forum. I got Maytag CSV to send me a Control Board for my FAV6800AW. Had to do some arm twisting it is under warranty for 5 years. If you think your Control Board or console is under warranty give it a try. They wanted a Cert Svr Tech to diag the problem. I told them my neighbor was a Svr Tech (me) he had diag the problem and would install the part. They sent me the Control Board, it might be worth a try. I have a number spare parts not under warranty and ebay is my 1st choice, Second Choice . I use this for parts look up Sears Parts Direct.
What is your model type? It sounds like you have Service Manual for your machine and you are troubleshooting in the right direction. Do you have surge protection on the 120VAC outlet powering your machine. Good Luck Rich.

Ya thru me with the Econo Program . Do you mean Enviro Plus? So you pulled the ribbon cable from the control board and made some key pad resistance measurements?

I hope that is what you mean with this comment “”I've check the resistance on the connctors between buttons panel and a control board and they seem to be OK except that there is some conductivity between pins 3 and 4 and I don't know if this is OK.””

You don’t want make any measurements on the control board with the Ohm Meter.

With the ribbon cable pulled from the control board I checked between pin 3&4 of the ribbon cable with my DVM and read an open. I then made a key measurement (Super Wash) from trace 3&18 on the ribbon cable and measure open no key press, and 96 Ohms with a key press. What did you measure between trace 3&4 in Ohms? Wonder if that is causing this issue….. but you pass the keypad check.

If you haven’t removed the ribbon cable from the socket on the control board I use this process.

Squeeze the ribbon cable retainer plug ends to release the retaining clip from the socket which will then slide up the ribbon cable as in this pic. Don't pull on the ribbon cable until you slide the retaining clip up the cable. I would check for any corrosion path issues between the conductive pads on the ribbon cable and the mating socket on the Control Board. Again don’t make any measurements on the socket on the control board. The conductive pads/traces are on the other side of the ribbon cable.

Let me know if there is anything I can help out with.

Maytag Neptune TL

The TL neptune has a small shock absorber on the middle left hand corner behind the front panel. it uses a small wiring clip that could be loose, with a type of inertia switch.
A common issue I've encountered with this machine is underloading. The snubber and springs allow a fair amount of movement. Don't do a few simple items or mixed load in this machine.
If these don't seem to help, let us know.

Maytag Neptune TL clutch problems- Class Action Lawsuit??

I sounds like this is a common problem with the Maytag Neptune TL after about 3-5 years. Mine finally went out yesterday after several months of bearings getting louder all of the time. It looks like the bearings and the controller are gone. What happened to washing machines that last 15 - 20 years?

Code OP means lid is open. If it really isn't, then the problem is with the switch that sense whether the lid is shut or not. Could be bad switch or bad connection.
