Question about Sony Handycam DCR-SR200 Camcorder

1 Answer

Sony DCR-SR200 screen is very dim and camera turns itself off.

Camera working fine one day and next day the screen is very dim with no color. At first I couldn't even tell is was working at all. I moved the screen around some and it brightened with color to normal appearance. Then it wen dim again. Then the camera turned itself off. I turned it on and it had the same dim screen. I move it and it brightened. I used the camera for a few minutes and it became dim again and the camera turned itself off again. After this, every time I tried to turn it on, it turned itself off within a few seconds. Purchased camera May of 2007. Not a big video user, so only limited number of hours of working time in the past 2 years. Sony wants $271 to repair the camera. This is 1/2 the price of a similar technology camera today! What's up with Sony products,? Are they no longer making reliable cameras?

My camera is doing the exact same thing now. Today is the first day that it just stopped working. As soon as I turn it on, it turns it self back off like 3 seconds later. I loved this camera and bought mine in May of 2007. It has been out of the extended warranty for 6 months and now it dies on me. Go figure.... did you ever get yours fixed?

I have the exact same camera and mine decided that today it was going to stop working. I will turn the camera on and 3 seconds later, it turns itself off. I bought my camera in May of 2007. Of course, my extended warranty ran out 6 months ago, go figure. Did you ever find a solution to fix the camera?

My sony dcr sr200 the display gets black i can't see anyhting but it records fine and repaly fine. just can't see the desply

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to usually be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Sony DCR-SR200 digital Camcorder LCD is so dim I can hardly make it out. is this a user fixable problem?

No, it's most likely a broken flex LCD cable. It goes through the hinge and brakes very often. You should contact SONY and see if they would repair this for free (if you're out of warranty) as it's a factory problem.

I work for Sony.

We are experiencing some problems with our sony handycam dcr-sr200. The screen is scrolling upwards. It just started and we don't know how to fix it? Can you help?

Hi!
It's most likely a broken LCD flex cable which goes through the hinge. It's a common problem with these cameras. I repair them every day as I work in a Sony service center. If you're out of warranty, talk to Sony, maybe they are ready to pay half of the repair or something like that as I believe it's a factory fault.

Hope this helps!

Sony DCR-SR200 screen slowly "scrolls" vertically like the V-Hold on an old television

After researching various flexible cable numbers from different posts, I found that the SR-200 uses a unique cable, FP-610, part number 187145711. This has been discontinued and replace with part number 187145721 (same cable also used in DCR-SR300).

If you are in doubt with your camera, just take it apart up to the point of seeing the ribbon cable. The part number is printed on the side.

I found two sources for this so far, www.nexttronics.com and https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-parts.aspx. Price ranged from $30 to $40 plus shipping.
