Re: crt's

The quality of the color diminishes = greens aren't green, etc.
or one color may dominate = pix is mostly green.
or one or more colors are weak = pix is purple = no green.

As you see, it would be best for you to tell me what you observe
the tv doing or not doing......T.

When I turn on my sony kp-46wt520 tv the sound comes on for several then the red light blinks 5 times, and the tv shuts off. this problem happened gradually, it used to come on after several attempts but...

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble. A 5 blink error code indicates a white balance error. This can have many causes such as incorrectly adjusted screen voltages on the CRT's, a bad CRT drive IC, or a bad picture tube/CRT.More often, it is due to bad driver Ic's The Ic's are labeled MCZ3001D(B) and they should be found in the middle of the deflection board. If you call a technician, the estimate cost would be around $250 - $350.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

We have an 8 year old jvc i'art pro that has s problem with the colors. It has green lines going thru the pic and it looks a little blurry. Does anyone have an idea what could be happening and how to...

Sounds like to me that the green CRT is going bad possibly. You can take a ruler or something non-metalic and tap the bottom of the crt GENTLY and see if that helps at all....Sometimes the CRT'S get a piece of debris from inside the tube that drops across the plates of the tubes and causes weird issues.... Tapping on the neck of the crt GENTLY vibrates these pieces off and vaporizes them and then picture goes back to normal. If the set is 8 years old and you watch a lot of TV, I have seen the CRT'S actually worn out physically. Then it isn't worth fixing at that point and your best bet would be to purchase a new tv. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to email me back. @ Cheers.... HDTV GURU JAY

Bad news. The yellow spot is probably the result of a burned phospor spot in your blue CRT (blue projection tube). (Yellow is the opposite or absence of blue.) Probably sometime in the past, your TV turned off (or suffered a malfunction) which allowed the picture tube to remain on for just a second AFTER the sweep circuits stopped. There is supposed to be some safeguard circuitry to prevent that from happening, but for some reason, it failed to do it's job, with the result that it burned a "hole" in the phoshor of the blue CRT. You can check this yourself by removing either the front or back (depending on the model) and looking directly into the blue CRT lens while it is on. (Keep your hands away from the high-voltage circuitry beneath the tubes!) Unfotunately, the only way to fix this problem is to replace the blue CRT. And more unfortunately, it's almost impossible to get replacement projection CRT's anymore. Sorry!

Picture turns green ,usually within 10 minutes of turning it on.It will sometimes go back to normal color but generally returns to green. This happened when the set was much newer and Sony replaced all...

Green Tube maybe trying to short out or you can try adjusting screen drive to the Green Tube by turning control down a notch, Sony had a bad run on these with alot of Bad Tubes.

The screen on my Sony wide projection tv is turning blue after a few minutes. can you help? the model # is KP-57WS500

This is a typical bad CRT. The blue CRT part number is 8-733-647-25 but they are no longer available. It is not uncommon for this eventually to happen to the other CRT's as well. The only fix is to have a technician pull the defective CRT and have it sent to a company called VDC for rebuilding.
