Question about Husqvarna Lawn Tractor 48" Deck, 23 Hp, Model# Yth2348

Mower won't start

Started mower, it ran for 2 minutes, then wouldn't start again.
Checked fuel line, doesn't look like it is getting fuel to filter. Tank is half full, took off gas cap incase of vapor lock.
Is there a fuel pump? if so where is it located?

I've changed the plugs and gas filter, I can blow in the tank, it doesn't seem to be pluged.
Now the gas goes past the fuel filter, this line attaches to a mechanical device bolted to the motor.
gas it getting to it, but doesn't seem to go through.
Not sure what this piece is? haven't been able to get to the carb. Need to unbolt a few things.

The fuel pump is almost never on the carb, if you follow the fuel line, you should see the pump with a small hose coming from the valve cover leading to the pump, to create the pumping vacuum. I'd say you should start from the pump back to see if fuel comes out, WITH the cap on. It's designed to run with the cap so if you remove it, it's kind of like using starter fluid, it doesn't make any sense.

Have gts toro, engine starts then stops can not get it started.. r s

Your mower engine has to have these things WORKING to run: 1. Compression (engine in good shape) 2. Strong Spark (magneto air gap has to be correct for strong spark) 3. Clean air ( good, clean air filter w/no air leaks) 4. Clean, fresh fuel supply (gas less than 30 days olds with an inline filter installed in mower's fuel line). These things are assuming the mower hasn't struck an immovable object such as concrete, tree stump etc. recently. This will shear the flywheel key and timing may be off so far that engine won't start. So, where would you like to start my friend? Try checking these things. In the meanwhile....we can try to "coax" the engine into running. Remove the spark plug. Get an aerosol can of carb/choke cleaner spray. Spray a couple of shots into the engine. Reinstall plug. Choke the carb and attempt to start. This may or may not work, according to the conditions listed earlier. If this doesn't get it running, remove the plug and try it again.
We are trying to get it to run on its own, so it will start (or attempt to start) drawing fuel from the carburetor. Sometimes the brass bolt that holds the carburetor float bowl on gets clogged. You drain the gas, remove the bolt and clean all the small hole in the bottom and along the sides of it. This bolt is also the main jet of the carb. Cleaning this with carb cleaner can only help. If you do this, use NO metal objects to poke or scrape the bolt. The holes are metered and have to stay that way. Check for spark, check your air filter, see if the plug gets wet after you attempt to start. If it doesn't get wet or even smell like gas, then likely you have a fuel flow problem. Try ALL these things and post back; and again, if you have hit something solid recently with the mower, you will have the replace the flywheel shear key. It is a small aluminum $1.00 part so don't worry. Post back as needed. We wish to help.

The mower started. then just quit like ran out of gas. we blew thru the gas line going into the tank. then cleaned out filter. it won't start. at first it wouldn't even drain any gas out but we...

If the gas won't even drain from the tank, try removing the gas cap. It has vent holes and if this is plugged, the vacuum won't let the gas drain. If that is the case, clear the holes.

I posted same problem as this couple days ago. Took mower to shop. The governor spring (located just under the air filter) had come off. So glad it was something so minor!

When cleaning the carburetor make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked and will keep the mower from running. Reassemble and start. Good luck!!

Got a Craftsman 6.25 HP push mower. Had it for just over 2 years. I pulled it out of the garage to mow the grass the other day, and it would not start. I used some starting fluid and it started right up....

Check the fuel line for cracks or breaks. Check the fuel filter if it has one. And finally, you may need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb. cleaner.
