Question about Hayward EC75 HAYWARD PERFLEX FILTER SYSTEM W/1HP PUMP

My hayward de filter will not filter over 1 hour

I have cleaned it with acid for 48 hours, backwashed it all the fingers in it seems good. When I bump it it will put out a lot of pressure but then it starts slowing down until nothing the guage stays at 20 all the time. I can't see any leaks, don't know what else to do.

How much DE are you putting in it??? If it is a EC40 then no more than 4 small coffee cans of DE.
If it is an EC65, then no more than 6 - small coffee cans of DE. ( you can even shy back by a 1/2 of can of DE, without any problems.
Is the pool green??? If so, the filter will continue to plug up until clean.
Keep your Chlorine abit on the high side...DE filters run best with a chl reading of 3.0

I get DE back into my pump strainer and I only can filter for 2 to 3 hours before pressure is up to 20 to 25 lbs and I have to use bump handle to start filter again with results

The de coming back into the pump isnt anything serious, there may be a small air leak causing the water in the filter to drain into the pump.

As far as having to bump every couple of hours... is the pool really dirty?

Is your pressure gauge broken? Turn off the pump, does the gauge drop to zero? Alot of times they dont drop to zero, so when you hit 25psi it may really only be 15. Happens alot actually.

If pool is clean and clear and the gauge is fine... have you ever taken apart the filter and cleaned the de fingers? If not, i would take it apart, rinse all of the fingers and then let them soak over night in a filter cleaner solution. This cleans them much better then a plain garden hose spray. After they soak, spray them down again, add new de and you should be good to go....

Pressure increase over the red line on pressure gauge while we were away for a weekend. Now pool is cloudy white. I am assuming this is DE. Back washed and cleaned filter twice. However, after running...

When the pressure goes up, try this. Pour some muriatic acid in the skimmer. (about 1/2 bottle) Let pump run for a little bit,(long enough for acid to get into filter)then shut off pump for 5 minutes or so. If pressure goes down to where it should be when it's turned back on, it needs to be disassembled and cleaned and then acid washed.

THE PRESSURE ON MY FILTER KEEPS SPIKING. I TOOK

There may be a calcium build up on the fingers, and just cleaning them will not remove the calcium. I would disassemble filter again, then give the fingers an acid bath. Mix about 50 -50 muriatic acid and water and let elements sit in a bucket with the mixture for 15 or 20 minutes, then reassemble and see if this fixes problem. (the quick test is to let the pressure get real high, than add some acid to the skimmer and see if that lowers the pressure at all)

Pressure on the EC65 is always high

Certainly sounds like a filter problem. Here's a couple of things to try.#1. i don't know how you cleaned the filters but clean them again with a good filter cleaner/degreaser.#2. After a good cleaning, get a bucket large enough to hold the filter fingers in and give them an acid bath. They recommend a 20 to 1 ratio of water to acid (muriatic) but I personally don' think thats strong enough. Use a good amount of acid and let the fingers soak for a good ten or fifteen minutes. (always add acid to water, not water to acid) Rinse and reassemble filter. If that does'nt solve problem, I think it's time to replace filter.

Hayward eC-40 pump losing pressure very fast

A better way to clean the filter tubes in the EC40 is to remove the filter tube assembly and soak it in a 5 gallon paint pail that is filled with a solution of water and a 20% muriatic acid, available at hardware and home center stores. Be very careful handling the muriatic acid. Don't splash it around.

Mix it in a 1-to-1 ratio with water and soak the assembly for at least 8 hours. Keep the soaking pail out of the reach of kids and animals.

Remove the assembly, properly dispose of the acid mix and refill the pail with clean water. Soak again for 3 to 4 hours, then reassemble your filter.

Some pool guys say it isn't necessary to soak the tubes in clean water because the muriatic acid will not harm the pool water and will reduce the pH if it's too high. I've always soaked them to be safe.
