The solution above is crap, you cant just stick a replacement 360 drive in you need to know how to extract encryption keys to be able to replace one, either that or flash the drive with ixtreme firmware, to be honest it is worth sending back to m$ because they will replace the drive possibly with the new silent benq drives that dont break.
Hope this helps

Can you still send your xbox to microsoft if its not under warranty and has been opened up?? As i took it apart to change the drive to see if that was the problem.

If it plays cds but wont read games, your laser lens or mirror is dusty ,dont use cd cleaner you need to dismantle xbox to get to lens clean lens gently with cotton bud and blow out dust with canned air , it will work

With solution 4# if you open up your x box you can never trade your x box in and also microsoft (ms) will never accept your x box to fix . just to let you know :)

I am having the same exact problem. my system only reads games when its in the mood.. it used to help to open and close the cd door a few times.. now that doesnt even work.. most of the games im trying arent scrated either.. I think its absolutely absurd that when i called microsoft... the stupid dot head lady told me that i had to pay 119 dollars for them to repair the problem.. when all it is ... is a simple lens cleaning... that i cannot do.. because of the not being able to open the xbox without penalty... its a scam if u ask me

Most dvd drive have Laser adjustment pods, if your system plays any disc but not another type example: CDs and not DVDs, it is a laser issue, Look up a PS2 Disc read error fix to easily get it back up and working

Yup. I have the problem. So I got an elite 360. took the dvd drive out and put in my old xbox 360 and still got the error, it's the console it self not the dvd drive.

My xbox 360 consle has been working with only some of my disc's. It also scratched a perfectly good disc

My XBOX 360 console has been doing this periodically, with one or two of my games. I usually have to open the disc tray 3 or 4 times and it works, but now it won't play games at all. The console plays DVD's and CD's but any game, new or old that I put in it doesn't work. I've turned it on and off for 30 minutes straight, and it still doesn't work. I think it's a problem we can't fix, so just send it in to Mircosoft, and get a new one.

In my opinion (but i may be wrong) is that this message is a ******** message that pops up for no good reason and microsoft didnt feel like taking it out. Im pretty sure that microsoft wouldnt put a message like that on an xbox 360. Its like putting your keys in your car and trying to start it and it saying please put your keys into a car to start the engine. Its just a wrong message in my opinion. But that happened to me too but only on Oblivion. I think it could be because my disk is scratched.. So if yours are.. maybe you should try and get it cleaned or buy a new disk. but remember I dont know if thats the real problem. I got my disk cleaned not too long ago and that message doesnt pop up anymore. Hope this helps.
