Question about Frigidaire 24 in. FDB510LC Free-standing Dishwasher
I agree with the characterization of this appliance as a dish-dirtier! I am notorious for rinsing my dishes thoroughly, so much so that many visitors ask me why I would use a dishwasher afterwards! However, after using my apartment dishwasher the first time, my dishes came out with a dark brown, semi-solid paste splattered all over them. Unappetizing!!! I hand washed the dishes three times (with dish soap) but the "snot" just smears around regardless how intensively I scrub. I am to the point where I may have to throw my dishes out! Ggggrrrrrr. Meanwhile I've run the dishwasher repeatedly empty in order to try to get rid of the tree-sap-like material but it just moves around. HELP!!!
Every dishwasher has some type of filter to keep large food particles and foreign objects away from the pump assembly:
Most modern dishwashers have self-cleaning filters that don't need any routine cleaning.
Some have filters in the bottom of the dishwasher that you need to periodically clean. You don't need any tools to remove the filter, and cleaning it is easy. Consult your owner's manual to determine which type you have and its maintenance requirements.
If your filter is clogged, it may be causing the cleaning problem.

Load the appliance with dirty dishes, placing soiled pots and pans on the lower rack where they will be subjected to the most vigorous cleaning. Glassware and dishwasher-safe plastics should go on the top rack. It is not necessary to rinse dishes before loading them in the Hotpoint appliance, unless the dishes have been sitting for awhile and the food particles have dried.
Fill the detergent compartment with your preferred brand of dishwashing detergent, and add glass rinse solution to the rinse reservoir on the inside of the door if your model is equipped with one, then close the door to lock in place.
Select the cycle you wish to use and press the button. For pots and pans, use the heavy-duty cycle. Normal wash is fine for dishes and utensils.
Save on your energy bill by running the dishwasher only when it is full and by allowing the dishes to air dry instead of using the heat dry function on the appliance.
