The 'j' hook hooks over the transaxle and just hangs there. The spring attaches to the stabilizer rod (reference # 43) and the other end attaches to the "j' hook hanging on the left axle.

Nothing other than the parts breakdown. Maybe it goes on the right side. It doesn't matter which side it will go on, it's there to pull back on the deck to tighten the belt when the deck is lowered. Hope that helps.

There are two belts, one for the deck and one for the main drive. The main drive belt can be seen on the upper pulley under the engine. Check to see if it has slipped or broken.

Yes worn belts do stretch. On an MTD mower, like yours, there are blade brakes assemblies on either side of the mower where your feet rest. They stop the blade rotation when they make contact with the top of the deck pulley assembly. Part # 761-0168B Is the part # , you are looking for, you will need two of them.
Good Day.

Make sure you put the right number belt on it. Then, look at the belt routing chart in the owners manual. It sounds like you may have used a belt that is too short, or routed the belt wrong, possibly at the pulley which loosens belt tension when you press on the brake/clutch.

I need a diagram showing how to put the drive belt back on a riding lawn mower MTD model 13A869F190

I'm having trouble with the number you provided. Please revisit your mower and obtain the model number and serial number, then click on this link:

Type in your info to obtain your users manual for your mower. It should contain the belt routing diagram you're looking for.
Hope this helps... Good luck!

Variable speed belt issue

Get your model and serial numbers from under the seat. Then go to the MTD website where you can download the owners manual which should show the belt diagram.
