Problem with Vetta bike computer

I have an older/simple model of a Vetta bike computer. No matter how closely I align the magnet to the spokes to register speed, I don't get any speed readout. It has a brand new battery and shows the display; just won't give me a speed readout.

SOURCE: Bicycle computer not registering speed

You can use almost any magnet with a speed sensor because they all 'register' a loop of the wheel with a magnet field sensor. The magnet must be no more than 8mm from the sensor to register the field. IF it is an older magnet, you might need to get it closer to the sensor. I always touch them, then move one or the other away just enough so they don't bump. Works every time. :)

SOURCE: My Sigma BC 1106 bike

I had this problem as well. What I found was that the transmitter path from the magnetic sensor to the computer is very narrow, a 15 degree cone. Reposition your computer to fall within this cone. It should pick up the signal.

My cateye MC100W does not register anything in odometer, all other functions are ok

There is a small black sensor located on the bike frame immediately next to a wheel and a magnetic device clamped to a wheel spoke. They must be lined up close together. The magnet on the spoke sends a signal to the sensor as the wheel spins. The sensor counts the number of times the wheel is rotating.

Can the spoke magnet go on the rear wheel sigma bc 906

You should be able to use it on your indoor trainer. The Sigma will need a wheel diameter callbration to give correct readings.

Hi, I'm inquiring about the Vetta RT55HD,

If its dead (blank screen) it won't work.

Maybe a new battery would be in order.

You want to make sure the magnet on the front wheel is being picked by the receiver on the fork. Sometimes that magnet attached to the spoke will move on the spoke so that it no longer closely passes by the receiver. If the magnet has been lost, check with you can check with your local bike shop for an extra.

When i am riding the bike it is not telling me the speed

Some possible solutions:
computer unit is not "clicked in" to the handlebar mount. Remove it and re-seat it all the way in.
the spoke magnet and the pickup sensor on the fork are not close enough for a reading. Make sure that they are properly aligned vertically, and only about 1-3mm apart.
the battery in the unit is old and should be replaced. If you have a tester, you can check this. It will mean resetting the unit one way or the other. Replacement batteries are sometimes available at the "dollar" store.
sometimes the wire leads (if the Vetta RT55 is not wireless) into the handlebar mount become loose. They can be pushed back in, but this generally means the mount has to be replaced, if possible and economical, or the unit scrapped.
I hope this helps; good luck!

Where do I install the magnet cadence on my bike, the picture on the manual is not helpful. I have Cateye computer. Thanks for your help ~Ann

Hi there,
The sensor should be on one of the forks.
The magnet is attached to the spokes.
They should be positioned so that as the tire rotates, the magnet passes the sensor as close as possible without actually hitting it.
Zip ties and duct tape help with the minor adjustments and to keep wiring from getting rapped.
Have fun Mike
