Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

When I try and boot up my Dell XPS gen 3 desktop computer the power light goes amber and the fans start spinning at a very loud rate. I've tried various troubleshooting tips as described on various web sites (including www.dell.co.uk Amongst the things I've tried are: >taking out the graphics and sound cards >removing the RAM >disconnecting the CD drive, hard drive and floppy disk drive from the motherboard None of the these steps has improved the situation and I'm now seriously considering a new computer, however before I do that I want to check if there is anything else I should be checking or if there are any other diagnostic actions I can take? Many thanks for your help. Martin

Here is a forum post that may clear up your difficulty. Click here.
Otherwise, you may want to ignore this initial advice I had posted:
Very often fan noise is an indicator of a fault with the power supply, depending on your system's hardware configuration.
It seems the xps gen 3 has some fan issues, to say the least..but I don't see why you can't get it sorted out

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

You either have a power supply problem or a motherboard problem. You can try to replace the power supply first since that is less expensive then a motherboard.

My DELL XPS dimension Gen 4 wont boot up. The amber light is steady and no diagnostic lights are lit on the back. The processor fan is going at maximum speed. Before this problem I could not plug in a...

The indications are of a NO POST. This can be caused by:
  1. Failed motherboard
  2. Failed Front IO Panel
  3. Damaged IO Panel Cable
If issues connecting USB connections occurred via the front connection, I'd suspect the IO panel as the issue. If the IO panel doesn't resolve, then motherboard is likely failure point.

Xp420 dell doesnt boot just a solid amber light on mother board high rpm on fan that doesnt slow no picture on screen....?????

Solid Amber light is a No-Boot scenario for all DELL PC. It may be either Power Supply, motherboard, memory or Proc. If you try to call Dell customer support they might try to let you isolate the problem by opening up your pc. But they will replace the parts necessary if they found out that its broken and your XPS is still under warranty.

You can call 1-800-232-8544 be sure to have you Service Tag or Express Service code ready.

It sounds like the machine is experiencing hardware problems. You will either need to call Dell or take it into a local computer repair place.

Dell XPS400 No Start!!

If you fan isn't turning like it should, it is definitely a power supply issue. Go out and purchase a power supply with 250-300 watts...thats a good standard wattage!!

No power to my computer.

hi
stuart

just read this carefully.................

Unplug the power cord and the display cable from the monitor. Now press the power button for 60 sec exact. Plug the cables and your system is working................ This is just a power drain.
