This is called a System Error. It is about the same as the Xjunks ring of death. You need to call Sony if you haven't broken your seal yet.

Your playstation is oficially broken and needs to either be replaced or repaired. Sony will fix this problem for $150.00 through their website(under warranty its free). This problem happened because it overheated and the soder melted to the point where the componets shut down and the unit went into safe mode :( :(

flashing yellow light, then its followed by a red blinking light then
you have the yellow light of death AKA the YLOD. The lights are a
warning sign to let you know something is wrong. I can give you the
quick explanation, There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the
PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the
solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time
this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose
connection with the motherboard and you get the YLOD. WHERE TO GO FROM

is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150,
the whole process is 4-6 weeks You can call Sony and
they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back

We work with these issues all the time, it is called YLOD. A Chip gets separated from the mother board causing it to shut off with a yellow light and 3 beeps after that. in order to repair that you must send it to sony or find a local repair shop that works with ps3.
