Meant that I hit Fn + Home at the same time.

  • larua0302 Jun 20, 2009

Reducing and Increasing did not work.

So...I will try what you suggested. Problem though...I can't hardly even see the screen now.

(Am using a different computer now)

Not sure that I will be able to do anything - I guess I could try in the closet or something.

    I'll try.

    Thank you.

    Well - tried it all.

    Nothing worked.

Have a spotlite on the laptop so I could download the software.

I did have it plugged in also.

    Thanks anyway.

Hi there,

I'd like to assist with your issue.

Please confirm the command you are trying to initiate when pressing F1 + Home (i.e. what is it you are expecting the command to do when pressed).

Or, do you mean the two keys, F1 and Home individually do not work?

I look forward to your reply.

Best regards

    Thank you for clarifying.

I believe you are trying to adjust the brightness higher? Is so, try Fn + End multiple times to reduce the brightness. Does it reduce? If so, try increasing it now a few times with Fn + Home. Does it increase? If so, it would mean the brightness was already at the maximum level.

If you get no response from increase or even decreasing the brightness, you will need to reinstall the approriate software:

    • If you are using Windows 2000 or XP or Vista, please download and install this keyboard assigment package for your laptop, and click I Agree when prompted. After installation, restart your computer. The Fn + Home/End keys should now work.

    • In addition, for both Windows XP or Vista, you will also need to have this installed to provide the key functionality.

After installing both, the keys should start working after restarting.

    Best regards

Just wanted to add, if those links aren't working, these are the 2 files you need to install:

    Here and here.

No problem. Maybe the screen can temporarily increase brightness by simply plugging in the power cord. Some laptops do this automatically.

If not, the two programs should solve the issue (both may be required).

    Best of luck!

    With regards

I might have a few more suggestions. Is your laptop running Windows XP or Vista?

    Regards.

Try restarting your laptop, and as soon as it turns on it will say Press F2 (or Del or another key) to enter Setup. This is at the very first screen that appears. Press that key and it will take you into the BIOS.

See if you can find any brightness settings in there as some laptops do.

    Best of luck

The monitor screen is not bright enough to read information can I brighten or enhance? Is there a function key on the keyboard that will allow this?

Try holding the function key & tapping the Home button on keyboard:
Fn + Home - The computer display becomes brighter.

If this doesn't get it bright enough then perhaps the LCD backlight is dying. Easier to replace the whole screen than just the light.
Good luck.

  • 4 Click the "Start Menu," then click "All Programs" and locate the "Access IBM" program group.
  • 5 Click "Thinkpad Configuration" and click "LCD" to open the brightness control dialog. Select the brightness from the drop-down menu and click "OK."
  • 6 Click the red "Exit" button in the upper-right corner of the Configuration utility to close it.

Hello sandee232,

The following key combinations can be used for screen brightness:
•Fn + PgUp Turn the ThinkLight on or off.
•Fn + Home The LCD becomes brighter.
•Fn + End The LCD becomes less bright.

The screen brightness information can be located inthe IBM ThinkPad A21m User guide:

Ibm thinkpad 600x brightness control

There is no otherway. becase the slides sends direct signal to inverter for adjusting brightness. You can adjust brightness the
other way ,through graphic cards property, but that is only adjustment for the color and if you do make it bright, you'll be loosing the vivid color..not so natural.
takecare.
