Question about Refrigerators

Cube and water sensor on control unit don?t work. On and off light works ok but humidity, temp. alarm, water/ice control lights, not working = no ice/water. Turned off circuit breaker, checked ice maker, water filter, power and water lines, etc. - all ok. Any suggestions?

Hi - SeaBreeze - humidity, temp. alarm, water/ice control lights do not work. When you touch them, they beeps but nothing happens. The main power on/off button works. We do not have a lock/unlock button. We checked the owner's manual but were unsuccessful in finding a solution. Thank you so much for taking the time to help with this.

John - I have printed out all of the responses and will let you know what happens. If neither my husband nor my electronics tech. friend can make it work, is there a site at which I could get recommendations for a technician? I subscribe to Angie's List and will check there also but you're in the business so I'm hoping you might have a network. If this is beyond the scope of what you do, just let me know. Thanks again so much! Sue

OK, I have some information. There is a low voltage control board behind the controls on the dispenser. I can send you the service manual for your model but it is limited and not very clear on diagnostics unless the board works. The board is sensitive to static if handled improperly. The reason I feel it is this board is because the control functions no longer work there. If you would like to someone that I feel is better in solving this is TechnicianBrian SITE=> http://www.technicianbrian.com/ and I want you to email me and I will send to the service manual so you can present it to Brian. My email is appliancepartsse@yahoo.com I'm not trying to bail on you! I also would like to get some feedback from him on this model. There is some questions related to the power supply to that board that is not answered in the service manual. That is why I want you to contact him through his website. He is about as sharp as they come in this field. I could tell you to replace the board. But he may have a different plan. Email me with your model number in the subject field, Sea Breeze

Here is what Brian had to say,

I would suggest re seating the connectors on the low voltage board to see if there was a loose connection. Then following the process outlined in the manual, set the units personality code to 0000, then return it to the one listed on the model tag to see if the HV board will reset. If none of those works, then I would suspect the low voltage board as the problem. Brian
Sea Breeze: I know this sounds a little beyond confusing. Anyway, first unplug the refrigerator. Then from the front of the dispenser begin to disassemble the outer parts as seen in the the parts breakdown. (coming soon). We need to see if there is a loose connection on the board. According to Tim we will need to try to get the mother board to recognize the low voltage board again because it went offline (blank) I will need to get back with him or the manuals that concentrate on programming the mother board. I don't recall any detailed info on the mother board in that manual. I will do some research and find the mother board configuration information.
Will be in contact soon...Sea Breeze

The reprograming of the board will need to be done there at that location if the board. If it will come back on after checking the wire connector plug. If not then the board is suspect to be defective and will need replaced. Again when the new board is replaced the mother board will need to be programed to recognize the new control board from this location. Go to page 36 in your PDF.

Tighten the plug connector at the back of this board and see if you can get it to light up. If not we need to see if power from the main board comes to this board. It is a low voltage board so Start with AC and then see if it has been stepped down to lower voltage like 13 volts DC I will need to review the manual but you can check the board in the picture to see if signs of burn marks or heat damage. Also check the connections top left of the freezer door to see if they are tight or just unplug there and try to find the low voltage that goes to your board. You will need to email me to let me know you made a comment here. I am not getting notices from Fixya....Sea Breeze

Sce170a-1a wont harvest

This machine has a cube size control. Which tells the machine when to go into a harvest. there is a harvest switch did you try to force it into a harvest and if you did, did it harvest. depending on ambient temperature from start of freeze cycle to harvest it should be making ice every 15 to 18 minuets and then go into a harvest. so start the ice machine and time it , run it for 18 minuets and force into a harvest. after ice drops check the ice bridge thickness. Bridge thickness should be about 3/16'' the ice dimple must not be DEEPER than 1/16". If this is good then we need to look at what is not working to harvest ice. The cube size control is a reverse - acting thermostat that controls the start of the timed freeze cycle. It must be set properly to prove the correct size cube bridge. When it is closed, an indicator light on the control board will be on. If you force it into a harvest and it harvest the ice with no problems and the ice is at the right thickness then replace the cube size control, but if dose not harvest the ice and you see the ice is at a good thickness and not to thick because if it is to thick it will freeze to every thing and will not drop. SYMPTOM. Unit freezes, but will not try to harvest. POSSIBLE CAUSE: Cube size control will not close; to check: Unplug water pump, switch unit OFF and then ON, in about 2 minutes the timed freeze light on the control board should be ON. PROBABLE FIX: If timed freeze light does not go ON, replace cube size control. SYMPTOM #2: Timed freeze light glows, but after 4 minutes unit dose not power hot gas nor purge valves Then replace control board.

Will not dispense ice

commonly what you will find on that model is the main control board on the back of the unit is the source of your issue, it begins like a computer virus where the unit will render the water in the door feature useless, next goes the ice delivery sys, then the unit does not defrost properly causing cooling issues. But before running out and getting a new control board go by this check list first: 1) make sure your ice bucket is properly seeded, 2) make sure the ice in the bottom of the bucket is not melted together if so empty good ice in seperate container and put back in freezer quickly to avoid melting then run hot water in ice bucket to melt remaining bad ice afterwards completely dry ice bucket and put good ice back in and see if it works properly, 3) make sure the auger mtr is not seized due to door being left open and humidity freezing in mtr gear.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. the fan in the freezer blows air through it. there is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control.

Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp. try to chec in the user guide.

Hope helps.

Unit comes on compresor and fan run but not collect much water

If the room temperature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defrost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifiers work below a room temp of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensor from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.

Freezer

the alarm light is conected threw to the thermostat and is disighned to worn you if the freezer has wormed up obove freezing tepteratures. it is on and the freezer is still working ok then there is a fault in the control. Please check the temperature using ice creem as you gage if the freezer holds icecream to a hard consistancy then the freezer is working good . ice cream hardens at around -10 f anything wormer and its soft . you could have the control replased but the standard replacement controls dont have the temp alarm options. hope this helped. p/s if you are living in a worm climate enshure the freezer has adiquit air cerculation oround the cabinet.

Ice and Water not dispensing. Light button not working

INSIDE THE DISPENSER ASSEMBLY IS A SEPARATE ELECTRONIC BOARD THAT CONTROLS THE DISPENSER.
OCCASIONALLY, THE DOOR SOLENOID OR THE CUBE ICE SOLENOID WILL SHORT OUT CAUSING A BURNOUT OF THE DISPENSER CONTROL BOARD. CHECK FOR A BURNT SMELL COMING FROM THE DISPENSER HOUSING. IF YOU SMELL IT, THE BOARD AND/OR SOLENOID NEED TO BE REPLACED.

Superba ice maker stopped working, door water still dispensing

Use a cup of water and just fill the ice cube maker with enough water for the first batch and the sensor will then begin making ice again.
My ice cube maker stopped working after I changed the filter. After reading countless posts about wiring and defrosting and using a blowdryer into the fill line I emptied my freezer and fridge, then unplugged it. I got no results after two days. I finally just put some water in the ice cube maker (the metal ice cube tray below the white plastic fingers that forms the cubes) plugged it back in and closed the door for a few hours and it worked. I wonder if I needed to defrost the unit at all. It was working before I changed the filter, then the filter was full and stopped water from flowing (or decreased the flow dramatically anyway).
Good Luck
