I own a JVC HD100 and the ejection for the tray isn't functioning. I can't open the tray to put a cassette in it. The batteries are at around 7.8 volt.

Setting the disc ejection lock
You can lock the disc tray to prevent the disc form
being ejected.
When the main unit is turned off, hold down the STOP
key at the front panel for 5 seconds
If you attempt to open the disc tray by pressing
OPEN/CLOSE key, the disc tray does not open and
“LOCKED” appears in the display window.
To cancel the disc ejection lock, hold down the STOP
key at the front panel for 5 seconds again when the
main unit is turned off.
“UNLOCKED” is displayed in the display window.
Note:
Before the main unit is turned off, DVD/CD function
should be selected.
Sound like it either has one or two problems, the door is stuck and or the door eject motor has failed. Look in the front to the player for a small paperclip like hole, and use a paper clip to manual eject the and engage the loading mechanism usually located under the door for most cases. Check you manuals troubleshooting section for manually ejecting a CD..
I would pull off cover, unscrew and remove top carriage of tray and remove your disc. While your at it you should take cotton swab and dip it in rubbing alcohol and clean the laser lens. Then reinstall carriage and top cover and try using it again.
On the unit, press the stop button and the cd eject button at the same time. The screen will say locked still. Release them and press them together again at the same time. The screen will now read unlocked. You can then eject the cd.
I have this same problem but the cassette tray will not go in. Error 1 "safe mode". I jiggled the mechanism beside the rubber "guide" ( in the middle above the drum) and it works now!! It must be some sort of sensor??
I found a temporary solution for this problem. When the tray with the cassette tape comes out remove the battery so that the tray will not go inside again. Now on top of the tray it will be written as "PRESS" just adjucent to it you can see a spring connected to the tray just press the string down wards and the tray opens and you can replace the battery. Hope this can help.
Many times I've heard my tape will not eject, most of the time unpluging the unit from the wall for about 10 minutes and then plug it back in,this resets the microprocessor and it goes bak to normal and the tape ejects.I hope it works.
Please rate this solution if it does.
