How to use one then one iPod with one computer

Method One
If you share your computer with other people, you can maintain separate user accounts for each person who uses the computer. This is useful especially if each user has different tastes in music; users can maintain separate, personalized iTunes music libraries and can customize their iPods accordingly.

Mac OS X users:
Learn how to set up additional user accounts.

Windows users:
Look in your computer's Help documentation to learn how to set up additional user accounts. To locate this information:

Click the Start Menu, and then click Help or Help and Support.
Enter "new user" in the Search field.
Press Return.
If you create multiple user accounts on one computer but want the same music to be available in iTunes for all users, see iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer.

Method Two

You may use multiple iPods on a computer without the need to create multiple user accounts. To do this, you can set iTunes to update each iPod with only certain playlists. This method allows you to put all your music on, say, your iPod and keep your iPod shuffle updated with only your workout music. Here's how to do this with iTunes 9:

Create new iTunes playlists that contain all the music that you want to sync to each iPod.
Learn how to Sync your iPod (read the iPod Tutorial Steps section below the video).
Note: iTunes for Windows does not support syncing multiple iPod devices at the same time.

Method Three

Create a separate iTunes library for each iPod. Note: It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not just make a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.

Mac users: Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
Windows users: Hold down the Shift key while you open iTunes.
In the dialog that appears, click Create Library.
Name and save the alternate library file. iTunes opens with your brand new library file.
Open iTunes Preferences. Choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (Windows).
Click the Advanced tab.
Deselect the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" checkbox if it is already selected and click OK. This will prevent iTunes from creating duplicates of your existing media files in the new library folder.

Add the specific media files you want on your iPod to iTunes either by dragging them into iTunes or choosing File > Add to Library (Mac) or File > Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library (Windows).

Once you have the iTunes Library just how you want it, connect and sync your iPod.

Once the sync is complete, quit iTunes.
Mac users: Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
Windows users: Hold down the Shift key while you open iTunes.
Click Choose library.
Choose your original iTunes Library and click Choose (Mac Users) or Open (Windows Users). You can now switch back and forth between the different libraries for different iPods.

Itunes wont open

A corrupt iTunes library prevents the iTunes program from opening and prevents Apple device synchronization. According to Apple, the iTunes library must be rebuilt, which resets the library and removes the current content in the media manager. Back up your media prior to recreating the library, as the recreating process erases all content and your Apple device will synchronize with the blank, recreated library and erase the device's information.

Insert the DVD-RW disc into the computer's DVD-RW drive, and open iTunes. Click "File," "Library" and "Backup to Disc." Select the iTunes library and playlist backup and click "Next." Eject the disc after the backup completes, and close out of iTunes. Move "iTunes Music Library.xml" from your iTunes folder to the desktop. Right-click "iTunes Library" and click "Delete." Launch iTunes and click "File," "Library" and "Import Playlist." Locate and double-click the iTunes Music Library.xml file. Insert the burned disc into the DVD-RW drive and click "Restore." or
Fix iTunes if It Won't Open on Your Computer b> You've clicked and clicked and clicked some more, but iTunes just refuses to launch. A non responsive program is frustrating to any computer user, but especially if all you want to do is listen to some music or download a new album. If iTunes isn't opening, there are many possible causes for this error. None of these fixes will affect your current music collection. Though you may need to tweak or reinstall some software, your MP3s will stay right where they are.

Confirm that your Apple device is connected securely to your computer. If you are not trying to access iTunes via an Apple device, or if your device is connected correctly, continue to step two. Configure your firewall to allow iTunes to connect to the Internet. Many firewalls block software programs' ability to get online as a security precaution. This is because some spyware and malware is designed to transmit personal data from your computer. Making iTunes a trusted program within your firewall software is necessary for it to function properly. Create a new iTunes library file. An unstable or corrupted library file can cause iTunes to suddenly quit or not open at all. Recreating a library file is a lengthy process that depends heavily on the operating system you are using. See the iTunes Support page under. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 Reinstall iTunes on your computer. If no other troubleshooting steps are successful, then the fastest way to solve the problem is to start from scratch. Hope this helps.

Itunes is suddenly empty, itunes library still there on hard drive

Find the iTunes library on the hard drive and double click directly on the Library to open iTunes.
When you do this, the Library should open and all the music should be in iTunes.
While iTunes is open, go to Preferences/Advanced tab and look at the path to the Library - is it correct? Save Preferences ... hopefully it will stay this way and work properly when you open iTunes the normal way.
Do you have more than one iTunes library, or have you moved your iTunes Library? If more than one Library, get rid of additional libraries after confirming the preferred Library is opening correctly, being careful that everything you want to keep is in the preferred library ... Open iTunes a few times the normal way (just open the program don't click on the Library) to make sure it is remembering your library location) to make sure things are working correctly.

It's also recommended to check off "Keep iTunes media folder organized" under Preferences/Advanced in iTunes as well as "Copy files to iTunes media library when adding to iTunes."

Good luck!

Just use iTunes to manage your iPod. Disable RealPlayer's ability to see your iPod. You probably have songs in the file area rather than in the song area on the iPod. Restore the iPod and use iTunes.

My Sony DVP-cx995v stopped playing DVD's

I had the same "Cannot play" problem - happened suddenly, I don't think I was doing anything unruly at the time.

After checking repair (exchange) prices in excess of $250 from Sony, I decided to open the cover to see if I could see anything wrong - normally a futile exercise with electronics except that in the past I have cleared errant disks that have lodged themselves near the drive/player at the rear of the library.

Upon opening and watching the library try to load and play I noticed the drive itself was not spinning the disk once loaded. It would sit for awhile, thinking about it I'm sure, then would unload and load the next dvd, again failing to spin.

I thought okay, maybe try to spin the dvd while in the player to see if it's jammed or otherwise hard to turn. It was not hard to turn and spun freely. In fact, when I put my finger through the hole at the exposed side of the player at the hub to spin the dvd, clockwise, it suddenly started to spin - and play!

I put the whole thing back together to test and all seems to be working fine at this point. Not sure what would cause the motor to stop spinning and remain in that state through poweroff/on cycles etc. but I'm sure this is not the last time I will have trouble of this kind.

I would note that when replacing the library back in its home on the shelf, be careful not to tip the library, especially toward the player area because the disks will spill out of the carousel near the player and become jammed when you power it on and attempt to load. A final tip of the library away from the player area may clear this if you hear the disks rolling out of their slots and you don't want to open the top again (it's a darned heavy box when fully loaded).

Good luck!
