My TI-83 types numbers or shows menus upside down now

I had a few programs put on my computer by my Precalc teacher.
Now, my calculator types upside down.
I don't know what I did. Menus are upside down too.
I tried reseting it, but it didn't work.
Some of the menu lists have letters missing as well.
Please, help!

Hello,
You sould reinstall the operating system.
Use the link below to install TIConnect software
http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_ti_connect.html You can also download the latest OS there.

Install TI connect on your computer and run it to open the main Window. Then connect you calculator to a USB port and, in the TIConnect main window Click the TIDeviceInfo icon. Software will try to retrieve the info. If it does your calculator is fine.

If it tells you Device Not found , Click communication settings in same pop up window where it said Not found, and Select Device, Select Cable, Select Port and Click OK..

If you are lucky and it works, you should reinstall the OS, which can be downloaded from education.ti.com. You drag and drop the OS on the TIconnect main window. Calculator must of couse be connected to computer.

If you have problem with TIconnect, use the calc-to-calc cable to transfer the OS of a working calculator. Yous should be on Receive mode [2nd][Link] --->>Receive. (When both calculators are ready hit enter.) The other calculator, you guessed exactly right, must be on Send [2nd][Link][SEND][G:SendOS]. (When both calculators hit [ENTER])

If all that does not work, then it may be time to head for a place of worship to pray for its resurection, or look for a repair shop.
Hope it helps

Screen upside down

I have seen a lot of questions of this sort but I have never this this inversion in a calculator. You could try to reinstall the Operating system. For the TI83 Plus, the last OS version is 1.19. If it is a TI84Plus/TI83 Plus Silver Edition the OS version number is around version 2.55 MP.

My link key does not work for x for my TI-83 plus?

The key you are referring to is marked [X,T, Theta, n]. When pressed after the [2nd] key it opens the LINK menus that allow you to configure the connections to another calculator or a computer.
Its primary function is to enter the variable names X, T, Theta, or n. Which variable is going to be typed in depends on the type of graphs you are drawing.

Ti 83 plus has vertical lines and upside down numbers that wont clear

try taking out the triple A batteries and leaving the calculator to sit with them out for a minute or so, replace them and check if it's fixed. If that doesn't work you can do the same, but take out the small button back up battery as well. If you're still not having luck you should call ti cares (800-842-2737) they're usually helpful.

I've replaced the 4 batteries in the back of my calculator, but it still doesn't turn on. I have quite a few TI-83 calculators with this problem. (I'm a math teacher.)

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we'll go on from there.

How do i manualy program games to my ti-83 plus calculator

Hello,
Programs in general can be typed in the calculator [PGRM] --> [EXEC] [EDIT] [NEW]
[EXEC] : to execute a program already in the calculator
[EDIT] :to modify an existing program (open a program you select and allows you to modify it)
[NEW] : opens a fresh page where you can enter the name you give your program, then enter the instructions you want it to execute when it runs.

You can also transfer games that are on another calculator via a calc-to-calc cable, or use the TIconnect software to transfer TI83 games from your computer to the calculator. If you need instructions on how to transfer files post a request here and someone will be happy to show you how.

Hope it helps.

Numbers are upside down. How do I turn them around?

Hello,
Frankly, I would love to see that. More seriously, now, if problem is software related you may be able to recover you calculator.

It will try retrieve the info.If it does your calculator is fine. Fill the screen with letters, symbols, numbers, and use TI connect ScreenCapture icon and compare the image with the actual screen. This may serve as a diagnostic tool in case you have to take calculator for repairs.

If it tells you Device Not found , Click communication settings in same pop up window where it said Not found, and Select Device, Select Cable, Select Port and try OK. If you are lucky and it works, you should reinstall the OS, which can be downloaded from education.ti.com. You drag and drop the OS on the TIconnect main window. TI 83 Plus won't turn on after battery change

I was having the same problem...I found the info below on another blog and it helped me fix my calculator problem. Take out all the batteries, hold the DEL button and put the batteries back in (keep holding the DEL button until all batteries are put back in). This will restart the calculator and restore it to its default settings...but it makes it work again!

"Reflashing the OS is probably the thing to do now. I think there's some trick that throws the calc into OS receiving mode. Hold down DEL while putting the batteries in? I don't remember if that's it. Go to 1-800-TI-CARES/ti-cares@ti.com if you need specifics on getting the calc to take an OS upload given the state it's in."

TI-83 Plus Silver Edition problem

These instructions are from education.ti.org, and worked for me.

1) Take out one of the AAA batteries
2) Hold down the CLEAR button
3) Put the AAA battery back in while still holding down the CLEAR button
4) Let go of the CLEAR button and turn the calculator ON
5) Press CLEAR to get rid of the error message.

Then you should be good! All the applications on my calculator were still intact, so despite the error message, the RAM was never actually cleared.

My ti-83 plus has OS problem

That happened to me a few years ago - my friend tried to give me his operating system, and my calculator was all locked up like that for a while. There's some kind of reset code - pressing some buttons while putting a battery in - but it's been a while, so I don't remember which buttons.
