The reason why your PC can't see the wireless signal is because it is too far from the router. Or your wireless card is too weak to detect the signal from the router, its either the antenna it bad or loose, you may need to double check that. You may consider changing the channel on the wireless router to channel 11. Try to power cycle the router as well.

Where shoild i find MAC based filtering in Netgear WGR614v2 router

The MAC address filtering is configured in the Wireless Settings - Wireless Card Access List then tick Turn on Access List - then click on Setup Access List and then add the device name and its MAC address. Eg My Laptop 00:19:4c:24:2b:71
Then click Add and continue adding each device and MAC address - when finished then click Apply and log out.

How do i secure my wireless router?

  • Accessing Your Wireless Router's Configuration.
To gain access to your wireless router settings and configuration menu then connect to the router either wirelessly or via a Ethernet cable. Open a web browser and type either:
    http://192.168.1.1 or
    http://192.168.2.1
  • 2 Change the Admin password.
Most wireless routers ship with a blank password. It is essential that this is changed else a potential hacker could get into your router configuration and lock you out of your own hardware.
  • 3 Change The Network Name (otherwise known as the SSID).
The default network name is usually made up of the name/model of your wireless router. This information gives a head start for a hacker and makes it easier for them to break into your network. Don't rename it to something like your surname or house name as this unnecessarily exposes personal information. Rename it to an alpha-numeric string - this can be up to 32 characters long.
  • 4 Turn off SSID broadcasting.
By default, a wireless router's SSID is broadcast so anyone in the vicinity of your wireless router can see that it. SSID broadcasting can be turned off thus making your wireless router virtually invisible.
  • 5 Enabling Encryption.
This is switched off by default. There is a choice of WEP, WPA and WPA2. Currently the latest encryption method is WPA2 so use this where possible. Both your wireless router and wireless PC adaptor must be configured to use the same encryption.
  • 6 Mac Address Control.
All hardware has a unique MAC address associated with it, including your PC adaptor card. This MAC address can be added to access control list in the wireless router. Only devices added to the router's access control list are allowed to be connected.
  • 7 Update router firmware.
It is recommended that the latest router firmware is downloaded from the manufacturer's website and installed in the router. This will hopefully fix any bugs that have been found for your router and also help with any known security flaws in the router itself.
  • 8 Backup settings.
Finally, backup all router settings. If you reset the router back to its factory default settings for whatever reason, your configuration can later be easily and quickly restored back into the router.

Acer Aspire One D250 - Weak network signal strength with Broadcom 802.11g adaptor

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
    1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
    2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? ie. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
    3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply).
    4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

My netgear router will not connect through wireless side only

Sorry I should have clicked on Full View befroe I submitted a comment.
Try resetting the Netgear back to the default settings. There is a reset button at the back of the Netgear rpress it untill the LEDs flash then release the button and then configure the router again.
Open a browser and enter this URL http://192.168.0.1
The login name is admin and PW is password.
    Change the default password.
In the wireless settings change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
Setup encryption use WAP2 or WAP
For added security enable MAC address filtering.
Then configure the computer's wireless card with the router's SSID and encryption settings.
Also check the wireless channels of the access points/routers in your area and set your router to an unused channel (or one that has the weakest signal strength) so you get less interference with your router.
Also move your wireless router away from walls and if possible raise it higher to improve the signal to your computers.

Dell Inspiron 1525 not connecting wirelessly to Sky broadband

If your wireless router is configured with SSID, encryption, MAC address filtering (if enabled) etc. then the Dell wireless card needs to be configured with these settings to allow it to communicate with the wireless router.
Check the settings on your PC's wireless settings, and configure the Dell the same way.

Have you configured the Belkin wireless router?
You need to configure the Belkin using a 10baseT network cable first before you configure the wireless card.

To make your wireless router secure you need to use your browser and type in the Belkin IP configuration address.
Then you need to change the Admin password, change SSID and turn off SSID broadcast, setup the encryption (use WAP or WAP2 if your wireless card supports WAP) and for added protection use MAC address filtering.

Adding laptop to existing Westell 327W Router

that's probably because the MAC address of your old pc is bound by the router. when you the new laptop can't recognize your router i'm assuming you can't go online? if this is the case, you need to call verizon tech support and have them clear the dhcp of your router so that it can communicate with your new laptop and you may be able to go online, sometimes the network gets used to an old pc, it automatically finds the MAC address of the old one, if they can't, they won't let you connect.

however, if by recoginze you mean your laptop can't locate your router's signal wirelessly, that's because you have to enable Wireless Zero Configuration first in windows. you can activate that by going to services. if you have an XP, that's clicking on start, clicking on RUN, and the typing in services.msc and then click ok, look for Wireless Zero Configuration and activate the service. If you have vista, click on search, type in services, click on services that it will show you and look for Wireless Zero Configuration and activate the service. after this you will the be able to see your wireless connection when you view available networks. I hope it's either the first or this one. Hope this helps.
