If this is anything like my table saw, you shouldn't need to remove the motor, just lower the blade all the way, reach in from the back and place the belt over the pulleys while holding the motor all the way up. If the belt is too short, it might be the wrong one. They shipped me the wrong one twice, I finally went out and purchased a universal belt (constructed kind of like a bicycle chain) from a local woodworking supply shop. Its been working great for 2 years.

10yr old table saw smells hot and trips breaker

Maybe, but first rule out several other things. Has the saw been recently overloaded - heavy cuts with a dull blade? You may have a partially burnt-out motor (which means the insulation on the wire in the windings has partially melted.) Has it been used recently or used now with an extension cord or to an outlet wired with 15 ga wire? Is the saw arbor hard to turn by hand (with the belt removed)? Does the motor overheat with no load (remove the belt and let it run for 10 minutes)? Try running the saw with the belt on, but not cutting for 10 minutes.
Good luck!

I have recently replaced my 29 year old craftsman 10" table saw with a new switch. In trying to turn it on, the motor hummed, slightly oscilated and tripped out the wall breaker. I checked the Sears parts...

You may find a replacement motor on ebay. I deal in Craftsman Belt drive table saws, yours looks to be a direct drive. Sorry I wouldn't be much help with those, Jim

New or used motor for a Craftsman 10" table saw

You can try Sears but they can be a bit pricey. I use to send out motors for a factory I worked in to a rebuilder who would even do new windings. Check in your area for a rebuilder, As for the replacement being a Sears unit they may have a similar motor in stock. Good luck.
