Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

In Use Memory is flashing and there is a clicking sound.

My 780 was working fine prior to my move. I installed it into the new apt but now the in use memory light is flashing and there is a clicking sound that it continuous.
I checked for any left over documents in copy, fax, and scan and none are there. Also no documents are in control panel.
The clicking does not correspond to the memory light. Also it is a double click: click,, click..about every second. This is driving me crazy!
Finally it won't let me turn it off saying: "machine in use, can not turn off"
Otherwise it works fine.
I would hate to discard it just for the clicking and the light but it really is that annoying, can someone help me?

Okay, this is what happens when you put your USB cable into the external device jack next to the telephone line jack (instead of the USB port). Once you plug the stuff in correctly, the problem goes away.

Re: In Use Memory is flashing and there is a clicking...

Issue: Clicking noise is heard or In Use/Memory light is on steady or flashing.

solution 1.

  1. After all jobs have completed and you are certain there are no more pending jobs, disconnect the interface (parallel or USB) cable from the device.

  2. If the model is fax capable, disconnect the telephone line cord from the device.

  3. Disconnect the power cord (also referred to as adapter) from the device.

  4. Shut down the computer.

  5. Wait for approximately ten seconds and then reconnect the power cord.

  6. Once the device has powered back on, press <ON/OFF> to confirm the device will power off.

  7. If the device powers off, press <ON/OFF> to power the device back on.

  8. Reconnect the interface cable (and telephone line cord - if applicable) to the device.

  9. Turn on the computer.

Solution 2:

Connect the telephone line cord to the correct port on the device

Connect the telephone line cord to the appropriate port on the device. The telephone line cord must be connected correctly for the device to function properly.
  1. Connect a line cord from the telephone wall jack to the [L] jack on the device. The [L] jack is indicated in the magnified view by the red arrow.

  2. Connect a line cord from the extension telephone port on the device* to an external telephone, answering machine or computer modem. The extension telephone port is indicated in the maginified view by the blue arrow.

I have a dell 1536 laptop that has never been able to communicate with a printer. I thought I just had one that was too old. I am running Vista and just bought a brand new Cannon printer, still no luck....

Is it a USB printer? Does your USB port on your Laptop work when you connect any Flash memory to it? If so make sure you have installed the current drivers for the printer prior to plugging it into the Laptop.

Clicking sound and in use/memory light flashes. Canon PIXMA MX850

I had this problem and found that I had plugged the usb cable into the wrong plug hole. I had tried a reinstall of teh printer which failed when it tried to recognise that teh printer was on and connected. When I moved the usb cable to teh correcr socket (closest to teh side of teh printer) it was fine.

Pictures are printed with stripes and poor color

make sure your printer printed an initialisation or alignment sheet once you installed the new cartridge.
you can try a partial reset of the printer and check if the printer prints fine, also there is an option of cartridge calibration in the printer properties or the printer software installed in your computer

I just noticed that I had the telephone cable connected to the "Telephone" port on the back of the Fax/Printer. When I switched it to the "Line" port, suddenly the clicking stopped and the Memory/In Use light went off. Now we will see if I can Fax something. Hope this works for you too!

Paper lilght flashing after installation

Sounds like a Driver issue. Try completely un-installing the drivers, and re downloading them before hooking up the printer. Something is conflicting with the printer and making it print spooler language. Maybe try downloading the drivers from the Manufactures website. Also What model Printer is it? and What lights are flashing?

In Use Memory is flashing and there is a clicking sound.

Yeah, I had the same problem and I had to pay $9.99 for the solution. :P I called Canon’s technical support for help even though I have an expired warrantee, so that’s why this little piece of information was so expensive. Oh well, at least I didn’t cry and I’m happy that it’s fixed. lol
So this is the problem, just like everyone keeps saying: THE USB CORD IS IN THE PHONE JACK AND THE FAX THINKS THAT THE PRINTER IS “ON HOOK.” The thing is, in the back of the printer you have a column of jacks, the one on top has an icon of a phone and the one on bottom has a picture of an “L” or laptop. TAKE YOUR USB CORD OUT OF EITHER ONE OF THOSE, NO MATTER WHICH ONE IT MAY BE. What you may not have figured out by now is that there is a THIRD jack that is not anywhere near those two. If you’re facing the front of the printer to the far right of the backside of the machine, there is this deep cavity that has your third, miracle jack in it. It’s even more to the right than the two jacks I described previously and its icon looks like a sideways, three-pronged cactus. Plug the square end of the USB cord into that jack, and the In Use/Memory light should stop blinking, and your printer can stop acting like car because the annoying, turn-signal clicking should stop as well. :)
You’re problem was probably the same as mine, when you moved your printer, you neglected to find your instructions manual (because you probably neglected to put that in a safe placed too lol) and you forgot which jack the USB cord went into.
Well, I hope my help was clear and that my $9.99 can go towards helping all those with this same problem and get use out of what seems like a waste of money. lol
