Question about Washing Machines

Kenmore Elite he3 front load washer

My washer suddenly stopped working. The cycle light is blinking but when I press the start button, it will not start. I have done the diagnostics, and everything seems fine. The door latch on the door itself, was broken and I replaced it thinking this was the problem, but no. I do not get any error code. HELP Please

I had checked the door switch and it seems to be fine. I do not know how to put it in manual diagnostics and cannot find anything in my book.

What you describe still sounds like a door switch problem but if you can run it through the diagnostic cycle then it should be ok.
The only thing different in starting diagnostics and starting normal cycle is you don't press the start button in diagnostics.
If you know how to put it into manual diagnostics you can check all the buttons to make sure they are working properly.
It is unusual to have 2 different problems at the same time and if the switch was broken, it definately would not start the cycle.
Put it into manual diagnostics and check the start button.
Post back and we will go from there.

I just re-read your post and saw you say you replaced the latch on the door. I was thinking you had replaced the latch assembly in the cabinet.

If you did not replace the latch assembly, look at it closely.

About 4-5 inches above the hole the door latch goes into you will see the door switch. It should stick out about 1/4 inch and you should be able to push it in and out easily.

If it is broken off the machine will not start a cycle.

You can break a round toothpick and insert it into the actuator hole so that it sticks out about 1/4 inch, then gently close door and see if washer will start.

Post back and let me know what you find out.

    Close the door

    Select drain/spin

    Select no spin

Push prewash button 4 times within 5 seconds, C:00 will be displayed. Let it run through the cycle automatically.

This will check each component of the machine. If it doesn't start the diagnostic cycle you have a problem with the door switch, main control, or harness. If it runs through this cycle properly but won't start a normal cycle, you probably need a new user control panel.

I expect there is a problem with the door lock assembly since you had a broken latch.

Post back with what you find out and we will walk through checking the harness and controls if we need to.

Washer will not run or complete a diagnostic.

1. The washing machine needs to be plugged in and in stand by mode with all indicators off.
2. Choose any one button on the washer's console except Power, Start, or Stop. Press/Hold 3 Seconds - Release 3 Seconds - Press/Hold 3 Seconds - Release 3 Seconds - Press/Hold 3 Seconds.
3. If the diagnostic test mode has been successfully entered, all of the indicator lights will glow for five seconds with 88 on the time display. (If it didn't work try #2 again One one thousand...Two one thousand...Three one thousand)
4. If there are any saved fault codes they will be displayed. If there are no save fault codes all indicator lights will turn off for a moment then back on with 88 displayed and the automatic diagnostic test mode will begin in five seconds.
5. If you are unable to enter the diagnostic test mode, press the power button and verify that the button you were trying to use operates properly to program the washer's cycle function. There may be something wrong with that function button. Find another button on the control that appears to work and try to enter the diagnostic mode with that button. You may also want to verify that the user interface has a good connection to the washing machine control board at the P11 terminal.

Note: Pressing the STOP or POWER button at any time to exit the washing machine's diagnostic mode.

Controls locked light

The Control Lock is actually a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance.

The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite HE3 washer lights light but wash won't start

Sometimes I just have to unplug the machine, wait a few seconds and plug it back in and it works. I guess it resets itself or something.

*&^% screws!!!

F2 = Long Drain. Most common cause is something (or lots of things) stuck in the drain pump. There are screws at the bottom of the front panel that can be removed to check it out. If the screws look like stars they are Torx head screws, get driver from most home centers.

Blinking clean light

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses, then repeats...

When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it will stop working and lock the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cycle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).
