    Ekse,

I have a bose 3-2-1 GSX system, model AV3-2-1H GSX Media center. On the back there is a ethernet (nic) connection. In the user guide it says for future use. What I would like to do is use this ethernet connection to possibly manage the information on the hard drive.

    Thanks, Michael

What is the ethernet connection in the back used for? I would like to manage the library using my laptop pc if possible.

169 is automatically set by windows if I remember correctly when there is no internet connection.

Are you trying to get online. or what are you actually trying to do and could you send me the brand and model.

Please clarify what your attempting to do. You have posted this under BOSE stereo system, which is why I'm confused.

For future use generally means, not yet used and it has no function, a software / firmware update may give it some functionality in the future.

Your getting a 169.254.51.254 ip or similar means there is no connectivity and is automatically assigned. I suppose you tried to ping the above ip address which is your own computer and of course you will get a reply.

I don't see anything relating to connecting it to a computer with the Nico and there seem to be no software available.

Looked over a few manuals and it wasn't mentioned.

1. There may be 3 issues here to consider 1st :
a. the network card \
b. the Ethernet cable
c. the Ethernet port on the router defective.

2.Here is a instruction set to follow to see if your router is connected properly with the said pc :
1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or firefox) on the computer that doesn't connect.
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop/desktop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. use a straight through Ethernet cord ( a know good one )\
8. verify that the network card is working by using a loop back ( that is ping the NIC card ( done by using dos command prompt>> loopback address is 127.0.0.1 this should yield 4 hops complete if the NIC card is working ( NIC = Network Interface Card)
I hope this helps. Have a great day!
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

Tip

Limited Connectivity & WiFi issue

make sure there is only 1 pc connected.....
.
reset the line PPPoA/remove the dsl jack (if PPPoE) for 30 secs > delete all wifi profiles > clear the TCP/IP cache by using "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt (if vista then from accessories right click on the command prompt and run as administrator) > switch off the router > restart the laptop/PC > remove the ETH cable > restart the router > after all LEDs are back ON > connect the ETH cable (and Enable the LAN connection if disabled) > NIC aquires the IP address > the same goes for the wifi adapter > aquires the IP address.
.
Hopefully the connections should work now.

Linksyswireless-N WRT120N The ethernet ports dont work when connected to my desktop but works on other pc's or my laptop.

If you can use the same cable and ethernet port to connect to the router with a laptop, or other computers, then you have isolated the problem to your non-connecting computer. Plug in the computer with the connection issue with the same ethernet cable. Next, open up command prompt and type in the command "ping 127.0.0.1". This command checks your NIC card to see if it is working properly (if you get "Reply from 127.0.0.1", then your NIC card is good, but if not, then you need to replace your NIC card.). If your NIC card is good, ping your default gateway (i.e. using a linksys with a default IP, type "ping 192.168.1.1" in command prompt) Your router's private IP Address, which can be found by successfully connecting another pc and, on the connected pc, typing "ipconfig" in command prompt, is also known as the default gateway. If you get 4 "Request timed out.", or "Reply from 169.X.X.X" ("X" being any number), then your network connection settings on your pc are incorrect. To fix these settings, assuming that you have DHCP enabled on both your router and the computer being troubleshooted, use the commands "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew" in command prompt. Give the computer a minute or two to allow the computer time to acquire a new IP Address, and the correct configuration from your router. Now your computer should be connecting properly.

How do i get connected to another local computer with wire

you need either a "crossover" cable or both plugged into an ethernet switch, with network settings the same but i.p. addresses off by 1 digit. eg. 192.168.1.3 on computer "a" and 193.168.1.4 on computer "b".

Sounds like an IP address problem. Your IP address on both the NIC card (DFE 530) and the router have to be in the same address range. You can do this 2 ways. 1... Have your router hand out addresses automatically. Make sure DHCP is enabled and that you have at least one address available for it to give out. ie. 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.3. The first three number must be the same as the router. The other option is to manually set your IP address on your nic card to match the router. If the router is lets say 192.168.0.1 then you can assign 192.23.34.2 to your computer NIC. If you haven't been able to access your router then check your router manual to find out the default IP address and use the same number for your NIC changing only the last number. The largest number you can use is 255. Hope this helps.

If you have their provided cable modem, you would use a crossover ethernet cable to connect the router in between their modem and your PC... First thing power off everything, disconnect the ethernet cable from y our PCs NIC card and plug it into the internet port (usually yellow) on the router, from the routers end, choose a LAN port on the router and connect an ethernet cable in it, then take the other end of the cable you just plugged into the router and plug it into your PCs NIC card... Now within your OS you will have to change the default gateway settings to reflect the routers IP address (user defined IP address) and then you should be set.... Let me know if it works and how else I can help you....

Can't connect to internet

It sounds like the driver for the USB network device is not loaded correctly. So, you'll need to reinstall it from scratch. Unplug everything, install the software, then reattach the usb cable to the PC.

The other thing is, did you DISABLE the network adapter that was already in your PC when you added the USB network adapter? If not, you need to do that. If they are both active but only one is connected, the system could still be trying to use the other network adapter and tying up the resources in the process.

Emachine model t3302 ethernet card

This is how the wireless world works. You buy a wireless router with a four port switch. Your DSL or cable connects to that. A cable called a Rj45 connects the DSL or cable to the back of the wireless router. You also buy a wireless network card for your PC. After running the software for the router & the wireless nic card including setting up a home network through windows your daughter will be able to connect that computer to your network from any room in the house. Below is a link to a wireless router:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10005578
You can connect up to four computers to the wirless router. A computer that does not connect to the router by a Rj45 must use a wireless network card. Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter Retail: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=252286
As you will see there is a big differance between a NIC card & a wireless card.
