No power to take out the tape and the camercorder will not charge

Canon ZR 800 mini DV Camcorder - I was recording this morning and had no problems. The charge on the battery had 1/4 power left. I had 13 minutes left on the tape and went to take the tape out and opened the ''sleeve'' via the specified button and the tape will not pop out. So I shut it and tried again and still the same response and now I notice the the camcorder has NO power. I took out the battery and put it back in with no results. Then I went and tried to charge the camcorder and it will not charge (no red charging light). even took out the battery again and nothing... Is there a way I can at least get the tape without dis-assmebling the camcorder? Is the camcorder just ''dead'' forever at this point? I've only used it a handful of times...

I have already pushed on the side of the mechanism that says "push" and it won't budge. It has no power which is the strange part. I find it really odd that the camcorder was working with absolutely no issues and just completely died in a matter of seconds. It still won't give any signs of life at all...

Sorry new to the system! No I don't see a pin hole. To take out the tape it usually comes up and then pops out of the side of the tape carriage (right name?). Right now it is locked down into place and I would think you would need a way to get the Carriage to come up and then pop the tape out of the side. Beyond any help with the tape are there any answers to why it doesn't have any power and won't charge too?

Do I need to replace the small round battery or the big "pack type battery on the back of the camera if this is the case?

  • sara_schafer Jun 20, 2009

Thanks, I think this has been the best advice and makes sense. I'll go get the battery and see if it works!

I am 100% sure that your battery has failed, gone open inside, without a battery installed even one low on charge there is no way to disengage the tape from the cassette, a sears of motor driven motions must occur to pull take out from cassette and pop cassette out and back for removal, 100% SURE. U will need to get another battery.

You should be able to manually eject the tape by pushing on the mechanism, I believe it has a spring. Trying hard to remember what the canon looks like. You are able o manually unlock and move the mechanisms

If you are looking directly at the cassete, I believe the mechanisms are on the left, also try plugging it in without the battery in

hey, you kicked me out without a chance. Oh well, do you see a pin hole where you can insert a paper clip to unlock?

I have seen this problem many times, the recorder unit needs to be replaced, either something in the tape path has become out of alignment or dirty like a capstan motor or gears or the video head assy is defective. I hope this helps.

Canon ZR-800 Mini DV Camcorder tape stuck

The way I can get a tape unjammed on my Sony camera is to remove the battery, plug the camera into the AC charger that is plugged into the wall outlet. Then power the camera on, wait a few seconds. Then unplug the charger from the outlet, wait a few more seconds (camera still in "on" position) and then plug it back in. I have used this method at least 3 times to get the camera to release the tape and finally eject. However, the tape is usually pulled or stretched and I use a small flat head screwdriver to wind the tape back in, but expect that portion of the video to be ruined.

The capstan motor is broken and needs replacement. You could send it in for repair but it wouldn't be cheap.

Wont record anything to MiniDV tape and A/D randomly working

Hello,

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.

Connecting zr85 to vcr to record vhs tape to dv or sd card

I also have a Canon ZR-- left of the lens and the built-in microphones, there is a small panel that opens to reveal several ports. The middle yellow one is the AV In/Out. You can plug in the cable that came with your camera. One end looks like a microphone plug, the other has 3 RCA type plugs- red, white and yellow. These get plugged into your VCR's OUT plugs on the back of the VCR. Place a tape in the camcorder, open the LCD panel and push the REC PAUSE button. On the VCR, press the Play button. When the tape reaches the point you want to begin recording, press the camcorder's Play/Pause button. When you want to stop recording, press the Stop button on the camcorder.
This is also detailed on page 82 of your manual, manuals are available online at Canon.com. Your specific manual is at: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=174&modelid=9739#DownloadDetailAct
Hope this helps.
