How do I test the capacitors and compressor on a R22 house air compressor unit?

the easy way is disconnect power to unit buy another capictor with same numbers on the side and replace the old one. do not mix up wire or another problem will be done. having no idea what type of capacitor you have but most capacitor even bad oneshold somewhat a charge so be careful discharge can be done by crossing leads with insulated screwdriver
and a capacitance meter can be used to test it

My RUDD central a/c keeps cutting off, the inside vents still have air coming out of them but not cold. When I go to check the outside unit it is either completely off or running but the top fan is not...

The switch that you are resetting is the manual reset high pressure switch. It is there for a reason, to tell you something is wrong. You having to start fan manually tells me that the fan run capictor is bad. Get the capictor changed. If you keep resetting the switch you could burn out the compressor, doesnt make any sense to burn up a 800.00 compressor for a 10.00 item. hope this helps.

Hello I have a 26 BTU LG split unit AC the capacitor in the compressor unit need to be replaced but I don't know how is the wiring connection the capacitor has three heads remarked as...

Hi, The Capactor that you are talking about is a dual capactor. It works the fan and the hermitic compressor in one. The leg common is power into the capictor, The fan leg goes to the outdoor fan, the herm leg goes to the compressor. Good advice is when you change the capacitor you should also change any other start componants that are also there. I hope this helps.

I have Amana refrigerator, model # abb2524dew, the compressor dose not start, I changed the Relay/Overload with Start Capacitor, and still nothing is happing

ther are a few things this could be ...if you have a meter we need to make sure you actually have power coming to the compressor as you could actually have a bad control or a thermostat could be bad not making the call to bring the compressor on... when you unplug unit and wait a few minutes then plug back in do you here anything at all? is it hummming for a little bit then clicking off... if so the compressor could be locked up requiring a hard start device or just a new compressor totally. i fyou are not hearing anyhting confirm you are getting power sent to compressor if not may be a bad thermostat or control .good luck to you

Carrier rooftop rv a/c runs intermentally--cools great when runs but stops like it is being overloaded

Since the AC is not tripping the breaker off - I'm assuming that the compressor is stopping (the fan continues to run correct).

Sounds like it may be stopping because the internal overload (safety) has opened. If this is the case you can prove/disprove it by feeling of the compressor.

If it is kicking off on the overload it (compressor) will be 'hot to the touch.' - and will not come back on until the it (the compressor) has cooled down.

The reason for this is usually because the compressor is breaking down 'electrically,' and there is not much you can do besides replacing the compressor or the entire AC.

However, there is a chance that it's something minor like a capacitor (run or start) that is bad or the refrigerant charge is not correct.

A bad capactior will usually show a 'bulge' (but not always) - in which case if you were mechanically inclined you could (after making sure all voltage is off) remove the bad capictor (be sure you mark the wires) and take it to a Air Conditioning Supply House and buy a new one and re-install it.

As for the refrigerant charge being incorrect - you will need a Service Tech to check this out.

good luck!

G.e. air compressor motor cuts on then cuts off

could be one of 3 things
not enough amperage in the circuit, needs a 15amp circuit
run/start capictor shot
pump motor seized

My fan won't turn on. I can hear the compressor working, and if I remove the cover and spin the fan then it runs.

What you have is either a bad capacitor for the fan or a bad fan motor. I would suspect the capictor firtsly then the fan motor. Capacitor is round or oval has 2 to 4 prongs on it and the brown wires from the fan motor connect to it. Good luck on repairs

My air conditioner fan motor runs in reverse thus, none or very little air is coming out

The fan motor can be wired correctly for up flow and still run backwards for downward flow or reverse when you put the wrong value capacitor or connect a hard start capacitor to an already bad start dual cap. Case in point: I come across a condenser where the fan motor is running (in the right direction, up) but the compressor is not. I put a hard start cap on the dual cap. The compressor comes on but now the fan motor runs reverse. No other wiring was changed. The hard start cap connected to the defective compressor start cap shifted the current, voltage phase 180 degrees to make the fan motor run backwards. I removed the hard start cap, removed the defective dual cap and replaced the dual cap with a known good one and everything worked correctly.

Blowing hot air. Compressor not kicking on. Where

Possibly three things, either a thermostat problem, starter relay/capictor, or a bad overload protector not closing after an overload. The starter relay should be behind a black box located on the side of the compressor.
