Question about Honda 8 HP Engine

Honda gx160 starts briefly, then dies

My gx160 powers a water pump. Has sat unused for 9 months. Engine starts well on choke but stops after literally a second or two. Refuses to start again within 2 minutes. Will not start without choke. Plug clean and spark good. Have cleaned out carb. Fuel supply to bulb underneath carb is good. Have cleaned the holes in the small brass unit that pushes down into the top of the carb. My suspicion is fuel starvation, but I don't know where else to look for a blockage. Have replaced oil in lower reservoir to max limit. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks, Tony

Remove and clean the jet set pilot (black plug on the top of the carbi) replace the o ring if squashed or worn. Clean the small bowl under the fuel stop cock valve, flush the fuel tank, blow the fuel supply line with compressed air and fill up with fresh fuel.

Is the air filter dirty? With the bowl as the lowest part of the fuel system, any dirt or water will wind up here. Turn off the fuel valve, or drain the gas tank, then place a rag under the bowl to catch the gas that will run out. Loosen the "nut" that holds the bowl on, and after the gas has stopped draining remove the nut and bowl, but do not let the float swing all the way down! Wipe out the bowl. The "nut" usually contains 1 or 2 very small passages, soak in (or spray with) carb cleaner and use a wire bread-tie or other soft wire to poke out the holes. Blow out with compressed air, if available. Put the bowl back on and try to start it. If it still will not start, it needs a good soaking and a rebuild kit. Stalls out like out of gas only runs for short time then dies

Clean the air filter out with wd-40, saturate it and just wring it out or use some dish soap and then let it dry out or get as much water out of it as you can. Drain the old gas out and use a little new gas to check the engine while the air filter is off and see if it will start, you may have to cover the intake with a rag to choke it out and suck some gas in there. If it runs re-install the clean air-filter before you operate it for any working.

Xr100; sat for 4 months and will not start. is choke on in an up or down position it is a honda xr100 2002

If the choke is cable operated then the choke is on when up, pull back the air cleaner rubber from the back of the carb, look inside toward the engine, operate the choke up and down, the choke is on when the flap is closing off the back of the carb, restricting air flow

Yamaha TW 200 starts but won't run.

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..
