    This tv has the flickering problem without and cable or video signal. The set has an internal problem. Could be the power supply or one of the inverters.

  • ivan_rolle Jun 20, 2009

    I have tried it with a different power out let same results. The tv is coming on but the picture flickers.

  • ivan_rolle Jun 20, 2009

Please check back light is flickering or its LCD panel.
You can confirm flicker by watching back light at back side of TV, might need to take off back cover and observe back light coming from any tiny hole there.
Does Menu also flicker or its steady?
Let me know to proceed.
Thanks.

    OK, please check supply voltage to back light are steady?
    Also check control / command signal of back light coming from main board is causing flicker?
    If this command signal that turn On-Off back light is steady then back light board is faulty, replace it.
    Thanks.

    The menu is steady.
    ==========================

    How possible if flicker is coming from back light? every thing should flicker then including menu and picture, any thing on screen would flicker if back light is bad/ flickering.

    Shahid Electronics Jun 23, 2009

    I took the back off and it appears that the whole screen is flickering including the menu.
    =============================================================

    LCD Screen consist of 2 main parts, one is front LCD Screen made of glass and one back light system that provide brightness to view picture in LCD glass sheet.

    You need to identify is it Back Light that is causing flicker (brightness will flicker) or picture itself flicker in LCD sheet and back light is stable.

    Let me know the results to proceed. You are my eyes and ears over internet to solve this TV problem because TV is not in front of me. My response / solution would based on your feedback.
    Thanks.

    ==============================================================

    OK, so picture on LCD is stable and just back light is flickering.
    It shows problem with back light inverter boards that need to be replaced.
    Master and Slave back light boards are available in Shop Jimmy for $70 each.
    As you can see in TV, board replacement is not so difficult and I hope you can do the job easily.
    Thanks.

Hi

Usually the first thing you need to check is your HDMI cable and all the connections at the back. Dish network probably has composite video outputs AND RF outputs. You should not have the problem with the CV outputs, but you'll need to have correct cables as specified and have the TV setup look at the video inputs, not the RF.

The only way to troubleshoot this sort of thing without test equipment is swapping out components, doing comparisons between different approaches, reasoning out what is going on.

IF the problem is your RF modulator on the Dish network, which seems unlikely because of the fact that your cable did it too, you could use a distribution amp to boost the signal.

If the problem is a bad RF connection at your TV or via the coax, you MIGHT seen an improvement by boosting the signal. Cost of a distribution amp at the local hardware store is $20. Some older TVs have 75 and 300 Ohm inputs. Are you using the right one? This matter because there are other internal components that might be involved, misfired, broken, missing.

To me, it sounds like the TV is insensitive to RF. The old cable box isn't. It either demodulates the signal and it comes out stronger, or it has an internal distribution amp that does the boosting directly.

    Hi

    Have you tried a different HDMI cable/port? If you have then how old is the lamp, it could be the lamp has gone bad, It does sound like an HDMI incompatibility issue.

    Hi

    Check for a failing solder joint in the power supply; these tend to be intermittent and random. Most semiconductors just flat die under the right conditions but it is possible for a power semi to fail internally exhibiting just the same behavior. Since both audio & video are down together, I would check the main power supply first.
    You won't hurt anything if you pull the AC plug overnight, remove the back panel and look inside to see if you have a separate board with larger components on it; cylindrical ones (capacitors) and largish blocks (transformers & chokes). If you find this, check for a part number or have the set's model number handy and call the mfr.s service to ask about repair or replacement costs. You can ask them too, if my diagnosis sounds

    It would seem that the video processing section is sensitive to heat. You do not indicate how old the set is, so if under a year, it should still be under warranty and you should request warranty service. Provide as many details about when the problem occurs so that it can be reproduced.

    If the unit is out of warranty, check to be sure that any fans on the top or bottom are free from dust and are turning. Also, you can open up the back and carefully reseat all of the cables and connectors. A bad connection at one of those could show up like this too. If all of that fails to resolve the problem, then the unit will need to be seen by a servicer. There are no user serviceable parts inside other than the actual boards and those are not cheap. It is possible that a servicer may spot something that we can not see, being remote and all.

    Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

If the picture on your TV flickers, there may be a simple fix. Here are some possible answers and suggested solutions:

1. Your set-top box may need a simple reboot. Unplug the power connection to the set-top box for about 30 seconds. Reconnect the power and turn the set-top box back on.

2. Check all of your cables for a loose connection by tightening each one with your fingers.Flickers can sometimes be caused by bends in rigid cables, too.

3. If your picture flickers to a black or blue screen, you could have a bad set-top box. Contact your cable or satellite service provider about installing a new one.

4. If you still have audio, the flickering could also mean that you have a failing backlight.

For additional troubleshooting information, check out the chart at TV flickering for more solutions. I hope this helps!

Sound but no picture

hi there.presumably you get a quick flicker of picture when first switched on?.If so, you will need to replace the inverter board,readily available on ebay.
another problem these sets can have is no picture in the middle,just at the sides, and gets progressively worse over time,until there is no picture.this problem is caused by two 680uf,35v capacitors on the power supply,which burst as they are under-rated budget parts,all too common these days!
hope this helps somewhat!regards,
steve
