Why won't the tail lights on one side of my 2011 kia sorrento come on?

Light bulbs require power and ground in order to work. The ground circuit for the left rear combination lamp is shared between the turn lamp, stop lamp and tail lamp. Because the tail light still works in that specific combination lamp, we know that the shared/common ground for that assembly is OK. The power circuit for both stop lamps (left and right) have the same origin; voltage flows from the STOP LP FUSE (15A) through the DBC RELAY (when the stop lamp switch is pressed) and then to each stop lamp via their respective circuit branches. Because the right stop lamp works, we know that the shared/common fuse, relay and switch are all OK. I'd suspect an open in the left stop lamp power supply branch and would recommending checking for voltage on the green & black wire at the left rear combination lamp assembly to confirm. Regarding the left lamp on the hatch, the wiring diagram indicates these are not stop lamps rather tail lamps only. I'd recommend installing a tail lamp bulb instead of a brake light bulb into that assembly as a first step. Check for a bad ground connection.

I would guess that you need a new bulb. Many of these tail lights actually have two filaments inside them, one that is used for a dimmer light (running light) and one that is used for a brighter light like (brake light, turn signal). The easiest thing to try (and probably the cheapest) would be to buy a replacement bulb and change it. Most places that sell automotive light bulbs will have a large catalog where you look up the make model and year of the car you need a light for and it will tell you which replacement bulb you will need. Then look in your cars manual to see how you access and replace the bulb.

It can be faulty brake light switch causing the problem or its blown brake light bulb. First check and confirm brake light lamp is working and that's not the case.

It can be faulty tail light bulb or its issue with tail light control switch or its wiring's are short.

Check the voltage at fuse slot of tail light.Do you receive 12 volt there.If not,then it says tail light switch is not receiving power supply.

Most cars these day's have separate bulbs for each function ie: tail, turn, stop & back up. Turn the light's on & double check the position of the bulb on the side that is working and go from there, also before you pull your hair out check your fuse's because some model's have a fuse for each light ie: Lt low beam, Lt high beam ect... hope this help's you. Sounds like you need to replace the drivers brake/tail light.

check fuses with a tester. just because they look good can be missleading

Bad earth connection.Clean or replce wire.
