Picture and sound is skipping or stuttering during playback. It happens when playing any video.

I have the same problem, sound and video skip during playback, all tapes. Tried a head cleaner, no help. I guess I need to buy another Digital 8 camcorder to convert all my old tapes to DVD, and then a hard drive camcorder to record new stuff.

Same issue. It was skipping off and on but now it is consitently skipping - all kinds of tapes. I tried to use a head cleaner but that didn't work.

The "solution" by raymw is only helpful for those making new recordings. It does nothing for people like myself with 57 tapes to convert to DVD, They either work OK, or very badly.

I've got about 10 Hi-8 analog tapes that I'm playing in a separate analog unit, using the S-video and RCA audio inputs into the Digital-8 camcorder. The Digital-8 player will record and play back well into iMovie on a Mac if I DON'T MOVE THE DIGITAL-8 CAMCORDER. I'm guessing that something is loose after all these years of use, and if you record and play back without moving the camcorder, it will work out. I stumbled upon this when a tape that played well one day would not play the next day after a car trip. In frustration, a smack to the camcorder made it play better.

For my Digital-8 collection, I'll do an analog dub into the Hi-8 analog recorder, and then the above procedure back to Digital-8 and then into the Mac. This gets around the picture and sound skipping VERY badly going Digital-8 to Mac directly, to only slightly badly on the video.

Any comments on the theory of something getting loose, and what we can potentially tighten?

This was often caused by mixing brands of tape. Do not use head cleaners more than absolutely necessary. More than half a dozen times or so, and heads are toast.

Use quality tapes of the same make/length, from new, and you will be fine. (the coatings on the tapes vary, and can/did interact with each other.)

Blu Ray Playback issues

The player may not support different video formats of your new files and I suggest you go look for a new one that plays most of the video formats like Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player, VLC, etc; you can also go CNET to search for a suitable one. Good luck.

Skipping Video During Playback

Most likely problem is tape path alignment, although a worn pinch roller can cause this.

Shaky sound and video

To solve this:

1- Check if you have more than 1 DVD player program installed. If yes, uninstall any you don't use (being careful not to uninstall the one you use or that's needed for the recording part of what you do)
2- Check if you have more than 1 Media player software like VLC media player, Microsoft Media player (automatically installed) etc.

Because it also affects video played saved on your computer (assuming AVI or video you play using Windows Media Player or another player) and DVD playback, its usually a program that is conflicting with another of the same type (plays media Audio/Video). If the above solution did not work, try performing the "system restore" and choose a date of when you definitely remember it working without chatter. If this is not an option, proceed below.

If your computer has been performing regular updates and you happen to be using a new Windows Media player, do you remember if it happened during a computer software update? If yes, the fault lies with Windows Media player having performed an upgrade to itself. You may want to "demote" media player by going to Control Panel and "add or remove programs" list (making sure "show updates" is checked) and scroll down until you see Windows Media player. Then uninstall the latest update it has performed.

If you installed another media player/DVD player program(s) and it coincides with your problems, uninstall it. Multiple DVD/Media players have their own settings, file changes/updates and they can affect one another if installed simultaneously on 1 system.

Playback on PC has no sound

Are you playing the video back through the camcorders utility ? Sometimes by clicking on the file through windows explorer you will get the picture but no sound, this happens for the Sony camcorder but is fixed by running the playback through the motion picture browser application supplied with the camcorder.

Samsung s730 Digital Camera - Video Stuttering Problem

I have the same problem with 640x320 video @ 30fps. The first one was very clean, but after that the video freezes every two seconds, but the audio don't. I "fixed" this issue changing the video format from NTSC to PAL. Now the videos are smooth again, and if you want NTSC playback, just use a video converter on your PC.

Tape "sticks "during playback

The drum motor in this camcorder has a earth brush assy which makes contact with the lower portion of the motor removing static charges from the video head assy. This brush becomes contaminated and looses contact with the drum motor which causes the "stuttering" effect you're seeing in the video. This problem can only be resolved by a qualified service tech., it requires complete disassembly of the unit too gain access to the drum motor. Hope this explains what is going on. Joe Weibel
