Question about Two-Way Radios

Problem with Headphones

We have purchased four Cobra MT600 radios and also purchased four 2.5mm jacks to allow us to use four Universal headsets. However when we plug them in they seem to transmit continously. To combat this we turned on the VOX, but on both settings we cannot transmit vocally.

Can you help?

Re: Problem with Headphones

Can you pls add a few more details:
1. are the 2.5mm jacks stereo (3 pins) or mono (2 pins):
2. is your universal headset monaural or stereo; and
3. originally, did the universal headset came with 2 separate plugs?

At most that I can give you is a general/generic idea. The external speaker/microphone (or in your case the universal headset) uses also the charge jack, chances are that it is a multi terminal/pin jack. Pls refer to the diagram below.

The reason it is in continuous transmit is because one of the mini speaker is wired to the PTT trigger or the pins are wired wrong;

This would also explain why no transmit audio either manual or via VOX.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

When I plug in headphones the radio goes into transmit mode.

This is a common problem when the audio device is plugged in when the radio is turned on. Be certain to have your radio turned off when plugging in the audio device.

If this is not the case, your audio device is not compatible with your radio, or your radio has a bad accessory jack.

Best regards.

Hi Paul,

Have you been in touch with the place where you purchased it from?

If , so and no joy, you should still have a copy of your purchase receipt with you, and you should file a complaint with the small claims court to retrieve your money.

I hope this helps you out, and buy a brand like Icom or Kenwood, they may cost more, but quality and customer service is worth the price.

Motorola talkabout MR350 headset only sends audio and can not recieve

Likely not compatible. One thing to try is to make certain the transmitting unit is turned OFF when you initially plug in the headset. Sometimes if a headset is plugged into a radio when it is already ON, the headset will appear to be in VOX (voice activated) mode and will not allow the user to receive. Also, if this headset has an inline PTT, it may not be compatible with the radio and you would need to use the PTT on the radio.

If this doesn't work, you would need to use the TalkAbout headset designed for the MR350.

Best regards.

Does cobra offer headsets that can be used with the cx80?

If your radio has a single 3.5 mm headphone jack, this will work;
If it has a 3.5 and a smaller 2.5 next to it, you need this one;

Motorola T6310 Talkabout Sound only comes out of earphones

We have discussed your dilemma. Check your audio jack hole to be certain nothing is still in the hole. Check to see you have the VOX setting turned to a normal or off setting. Typically the radio will shut off the front speaker when an audio device is plugged into the jack. If the radio senses the device, or a small piece of the plug is stuck in the jack, or the jack is damaged, it will shut off the front speaker.

Since you can hear when using the headphone, it is apparent you have the radios programmed to the same frequency and code settings. This leads us to believe it is not a programming issue, short of the VOX feature, or mic gain. You might double check these settings.

Vertex headset

Why not just get a differant radio capable for beacons. 406mhz is what they've changed to.
You used a part that was not compatable with your radio. The VX-150 has a differant size plug than the VXA-150
You'll need to take the radio to repair or bend the jack back to the size for the appropiate headphones.

Radio shack sales a universal power adapter. <CAUTION> make sure the adapter is set to the correct voltage and that the tip is set to the correct polarity. The only other option is to order the adapter from Cobra.

Cobra PR4100-2 WXVP with VOX

Hi Dave,

On some other models/brands, you need to use an external mic/spkr such as a headset for the VOX to operate. This may or may not also work for your model. Perhaps you can try getting hold of a headset that will fit your model and see if it works.

If you are already using a headset:
1. If it is a compatible model, then something is wrong electronically with your unit and you will need the services of a qualified communications technician;
2. if it is a generic or some other brand/model, then the pins, jacks, plugs or connectors may not be wired to be compatible with your Cobras. You need to get Cobra compatible ones.

Hope this be of some help/idea. pls post back how things turnes ouot or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
