My futura xl-400 will not power on

While I was sewing the lights all came on for the screen and after I tried to power off and back on it will not come back on.

Sounds like a power surge, or a board blowing. Probably a "take it to the shop" repair, if not a "buy a new machine" repair. If it's still in warranty, opening the case will void that warranty.

Be careful to only hoop the front of the shirt. Use LARGE safety pins to keep the rest of the fabric away from the needle. Roll the other pieces of the shirt and pin them to keep them out of your sewing area.

I have a singer futura xl-400, don't have the cd to install the software on my computer, can it be downloaded off the Internet somewhere?

if it can, you will find it --go google and type in --software for singer futura xL-400 sewing machine
from you operators manual it will explain how to connect the machine to the computer for the down load or to download to a usb stick for installation to the machine
if you don't have the manual then go google and type in -operators manual ( for the machine)

When changing needle the pigtail thread guide fell off the machine. Since then I am having horrible tensions problems when trying to embroider. Is the thread guide needed for tension control

Installing software

Delete all prior programs. Go to singer and find the patch for it prior adding the disk. It happened to me twice and finally I was able to do it when I deleted all prior futura programs. Hope it helps.

You did not indicate which operating system is used on your laptop. If you have Win Vista, 7, or 8, there is a patch that you can download from singerco.com, find your XL400, go to software and download the patch (should go to your download folder) . Next go to the Control Panel and uninstall the software. Re start your computer. Turn OFF your anti virus software and install the Base Singer software. Next, go to the download folder and double click on the Futura patch. Plug in your usb to the singer, then laptop, and turn on the sewing machine. At this point you can Launch the Futura software.
1. Turn on Computer
2. Plug in usb from XL 400
3. Turn on XL
4. Launch Software
