it might be a bad solder or a bad connection of the flat ribbon inside. You can try to fix the ribbon but it's a really fragile part. It depends how comfortable you are with this.
And if it doesn't work you then might have a broken electronic part inside.

Were you using Bluetooth at the time? I've had 2 Nokia 6288's. The first one died the day I got it. I'm pretty sure I was bluetoothing music from my Mac to my phone. The phone went blank, every time I turned it it would just flash, then turn off. So I returned it and got a new one. It was fine for ages, then it did the same thing when I was bluetoothing stuff to it. I got it fixed, and last week it died again-still flashing. I think it cost about $100 to have it fixed, but I'm not fixing it again. I got a new phone, the Nokia 6300-My dad has one and has never had any problems-and it's had stuff sent to it from my Mac.

Once you have it in recovery mode, create a file called "sansa.fmt" and put in on "16mb" (Which is what your sansa shows up as in My Computer when it is in recovery mode). Once you have put the file on the "16mb" disconnect the cable and allow the device to restart unlocking it before it boots back up.
