Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Upgraded my PS3 with a seagte 500GB (st9500420as) Now i get a massage "can not start. the correct hard disk was not found." I need to switch on and off the ps3 till it boots correct. Connected the drive to a usb interface and did a diagnostic it came out with no error. Called sony and they could not, they said its not a known issue. :S Looked now for 2 houres on the internet but no solution. no firmware update for the drive. Thank you for your time.

I have done that too, the only half solution i found is to set a jumper on the HDD and down grade it from SATA II to SATA I

its not a perfect solution but that will do till a beter one presents it self.

yes it formated with the PS3, the problem is not how the drive is formated. its because it doesnt see the drive, only fater few times booting it starts.

That drive should work.

Are you sure you're not getting another message that says, "Hold the Start and Select Buttons"?

You should try downloading the latest PS3 firmware and placing it onto a usb drive, then try the above again.

That's how I usually do it.

Dear Friend,

Have you consider to replace your hard drive?. That might be a good possibility why your PS3 can not start the way it should. Try that and see what happens.

Good Luck!

yes this should solve your problem. however this will void any warranty so if there is still warranty then send it off. otherwise replace it and the problem should be solved

PS3- cannot start. Correct hard disk not found.

when your ps3 is standing upright the tall way tip it over and look at the bottom there should be a plate that says something about the hard drive. get a flat screwdriver and pry on the right side of the plate. The hard drive is directly behind that plate and is secured by a blue screw. take out the screw and flip out the little u shaped handle and slide it to the right and pull out your hard drive. Try blowing out all the connections and putting it back in hope this helps

Ps3 Can't start - correct hard disk not found

I do believe that it is a firmware issue and not a hard drive issue. If it where a true hard drive failure, your hard drive would be completely useless. Since this error only happens at start up i believe this is what happens.

1) PS3 starts-up and displays the "wave" and plays the "music"
2) The hard drive spins and the PS3 firmware is looking for the "files" on the hard drive for start-up
3) If the start-up files are not found in a certain amount of time, this message is displayed.

I may be wrong but this is my guess.
