There is a tool you can pick up at any hard ware store for the clamps you are talking about you can also try neddle nosed pliers and push from both sides of the clip to remove but your best bet is to go buy the tool as it sounds like you will be doing this process again . Thank You For Using Fixya

Those are C-clips.
you can remove them like the one in the video below.
