SOURCE: PTO clutch will not engage.

first start by turning ign on,then switch on the pto switch to on. you should hear a click in the clutch. if not use a twelve volt test light, hook aligator end to a good groundand the needle end,,,touch to the pto switchharness to see if you have power to the pto switch. if you don"t, you have to go checkfurther to your power source,(battery) if you do have power there check to see if you have power at the plugin at the end of your wire harness, just at the beginning of where your cluch connects up. you can test you clutch by conneting a test wire from positive on your battery to one of the terminals on your clutch and the other terminal to ground . It willengage if it is good .using either wire is ok as all it will be doing is completing a circuit. hope this helps.

PTO engages, but, keeps becoming disengaged on LT1042.

Cub Cadets have one of two types of PTOs. The most common is gear driven. The gear teeth of the PTO shaft are very small and thin. If the PTO is engaged without proper clutch action, the gear teeth grind together, trying to engage. A little wear on these gears will cause the surface of the gears to become beveled, and when the PTO comes under load, the beveled surfaces of the gear teeth force the gear lock to disengage. The only option is to replace the worn gears...

The second type of PTO drive is electric clutch. This is a disc type clutch that is engaged by energizing an electromagnet built into the clutch pack... any disruption of electrical power to the clutch pack while under load will cause the clutch to disengage and then possibly try to engage while under load and casues the clutch pack to slip and will overheat almost instantly...

PtO will not engage on cub cadet 1000

It would be helpful if I knew whether it was working and quit or has never worked. At any rate it has of course a live PTO on it (not dependent on the clutch to engage-disengage it). Check your linkage, make sure nothing has come loose and not moving the travel rod. Secondly some models have a hydraulic fluid compartment that is used for the PTO alone, check to see if this is the case and if so check fluid levels. Back to linkage, the engage mechanism is usually a lever of some type that moves a valve body and lets hydraulic flow under extreme and engage s set of input and output clutches together. If your engage mechanism is a magnetic clutch, check for bad wiring and burnt fuses. If it is a fuse replace with the same value as already in the harness. If the new fuse flows don't do like me and put a larger fuse in it, though that will show what wires are involved with the clutch engagement it also shows the wires to be replaced. Check wiring for ***** wires or wires worn and touching metal parts and grounding out.Back to Hydraulics again, unless you've loaded the PTO hard enough to burn the clutches out (which I doubt very much) it can only be that fluid is not getting to the clutches. Chances that there is a problem inside the tractor with the valve body are slim but possible. Most PTO that just quit are caused by linkage problems or low Hydraulic fluid. Check all the above, I believe you will find your problem lies somewhere in what I have explained. I farmed for 30 years and we ran from 140 -250 HP tractors and if a PTO went out it was usually linkage or low Hydraulic Fluid. Hope this helps, don't want to miss a crop over a PTO!Col. My LT1045 blows the 20 amp fuse when the Electronic PTO is engaged.

you have to start with the switch and see if its faulty
see if you can replace it temp with a toggle switch
and check the wiring back to the pto as well it mite be grounding out

If not any of these then its in the pto its self

Blown fuses when mowing

you have a wire that is shorting out somewhere, i would trace the wires from the clutch all the way back to the fuse including the relay and pto switch. You will more than likely find your problem in the control circuit between the fuse, pto switch and relay since this is what is fuse protected.
