It sounds like your sound drivers are not installed or corrupted. Does it play any sound at all? For example the windows startup sound. Look in device manager and see if your sound device is working properly. There maybe more than 1 device. If so then go to your sound properties (right click speaker icon on taskbar) and see if there is another device you can use to play sound and make that one your default choice. If this doesn't work then look for updated sound drivers for your particular device. Hope you get it working.

I would reinstall the sound driver by going to the control panel choose system then when the device manager tab comes up choose hardware.Find the sound devices then right click on it to remove it.Windows will autimatically re-install the device.

You can check the sound settings in the control panel and see if the audio device is configured properly. Default device selection, volume level, etc.
If that is all okay, consider reinstalling your audio driver, or the audio codecs (something like the K-Lite codec pack).

My mp3 playa wont come on

I have the same unit, which I think was great value for the money, but occasionally it refuses to start up (it hangs at the welcome screen) or doesn't play certain tracks. Whenever it acts up, the solution has been to reflash/upgrade the firmware.

Download the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery,
  3. hold the play button while plugging the RCA player into your computer's usb port,
  4. release the play button when the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. check the box that says "format data" (you can try it first without this checked, it may work and will save your music),
  6. click the start button to replace the firmware.

After I did this, I was also able to play DRM-protected and aac audio files. I hope that helps.

Sounds to me like you need a new battery. There are a couple of other things it could be (i.e. the ac power cord) but it is most likely a battery-related issue.
