Question about Hitachi 53UDX10B 53" Rear Projection Television
50UX10B 1992 projection TV:
The power light will always come on, but the picture and sound does not work all the time. This has become more frequent recently; I first thought that I was getting a crossed remote signal from our VCR or DVD because it would faze between input 1, 2, and 3 or change from channel 3 to 33 seemingly during, but mostly between uses. Being that I do not have the original remote the TV became more and more difficult to operate. Unfortunately, I picked up a programmable remote that has limited operational functions, but I could manage to get it back to input 2, and it would work again. The TV has been un-operable (aside from the power light) for a week now, just yesterday I gave it a try and the screen turned on, fuzzy screen, volume, channels change, ex. I hooked up the converter box and VCR turned the TV back on, and again power light turns on, but no image on screen. This thing seems to have a mind of its own. Any thoughts?
I believe this set has two relays in the power supply. One for standby power and one for full power. I have seen cases where the full power relay drops out or not energise causing the same symptom you describe. Lightly tapping on the relay sometimes identifies the culprit.
Hope this helps
