I am getting a split screen from side to side. There is a black streak about one third over from the side when I play the DVD disc.
Note I am not having a problem with the VCR.

First, verify that your cable from the DVD player to your TV is connected properly and snug. You can try re-seating the cable to make sure all the connections are tight.
If that fails, I would try another input on your TV. If it works on another input, then your TV may have a problem with the input you initially had the DVD Player plugged into.
Third, try another cable, or output type on your DVD player.
If all of those fail, the problem is most likely to be with your DVD player itself, you can either try to have it repaired or replace it.
Hi, Check side of unit for slide switch Line Select near AC adapter input jack, set it to Out position, player will start playback of dvd disc and you will get picture in its lcd screen. Thanks.
Use a q tip with a little bit (not dripping) of rubbing alcohol. Eject the tray, unplug, look for laser, you may have to do a little bit of disassembling, but have no fear if you have a digital camera at hand. Use the q tip and gently spin it between your fingers and lightly press against the laser lens. Let the lens dry and look for streaking,if it streaks, youre using too much alcohol. After cleaning, test with an audio cd,then regular dvd, then blu ray. If it works awesome,if it doesn't then the laser is most likely burned out.
I found this on the PROSCAN website under customer support manuals. The website is www.oncorpus.com.I hope this information helps you with your problem. IMPORTANT THE LABEL SIDE OF THE DVD MUST FACE THE BACK SIDE OF THE TELEVISION 1. Press the ‘INPUT’ button to select ‘DVD’ mode, if no disc is inserted yet, the display shows ‘No Disc’. 2.Insert a DVD with the printed side facing towards the rear of the TV/DVD Player (see below) 3.The TV will first display ‘Loading’, then change to ‘DVD-video’. Most DVDs will show some preliminary information then stop at a main menu screen. 4. Press PLAY/PAUSE to play it directly. Or press the DVD-MENU button to access the disc menu during playback. 5.Use the direction button on the remote control to select the desired option. Press ENTER to select the option or press the ► button. Playback will now commence. 6.After playback, press the EJECT button on remote control or EJECT button on TV/DVD to remove the disc. Note: No function‘’ will sometimes appear on the screen after a button is pressed. This indicates that the function is not supported at the current time.
I had the same problem. It turned out to be my cable that went from the dvd player to the TV. I replaced with new cable & everything worked fine again. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
Give this a try. Using your user's manual, locate the "Configuring your recorder" section. Under this section there will be "System setup - general" subsection. Being that you are unable to see anything on your tv display you will need to use your manual as your display. Press the "SETUP" key on your remote. Once again using your manual as your display, scroll down to "Restore factory settings" and press "ENTER" As long as you are located in North or Central America and using interlaced video outputs you should have your normal display back.
Hope this helps.
If you are playing STANDARD CD or regular DVD that you have purchase and you are having this problem, your dvd player is malfunction;however,if you are playing DVD burner disc or a different dvd region disc(we are region 1 in U.S.) that is no going to work.Same thing for your CD burner disc,it might not work. If you are using a rental dvd disc, check and see if there is scratches? If so,try to get one without that many scratches! Joe
